Can I be autistic and schizophrenic?

It can cause a range of different psychological symptoms, including hallucinations and delusions. Being autistic and having schizophrenia is thought to be rare, but the research and evidence is very limited .

Yes many people here have sz and autism
It’s thought by many doctors to be a spectrum

True dude yea many people don’t learn about it until they’re atleast 30. It’s common to happen.

I feel like I could easily be diagnosed with Asperger’s, but I’m not sure how much I agree. There’s many reasons my social skills aren’t very good, which could be why I can’t pick up on cues.

I feel like this diagnosis is overly used nowadays, but I’m no doctor

I have my own suspicions about being on the autistic spectrum myself, but I’m not sure if I’d ever bring up getting tested/diagnosed.

@Schztuna how comes you’re not sure about getting tested? No worries if private.

I also have suspicions but I dunno if I can be bothered with the tests t b quite frank.

I’m in the same boat. I know almost assuredly I am but… Idk for now not crazy about getting tested for it. They prescribed abilify sometimes to control the mood portions of it anyways. And as far as I know that’s about all they do for it besides like ADHD components a person may have etc but yea… I’m already on abilify so. As far as health goes. As far as having an “official” label, I don’t really care. Only thing is it would be nice to know for sure.

Re late dxed ASD.

i had a psychological assessment requested by the gov for disability a couple years ago and he said i also have autism.

@Zoe not too sure to be honest, I guess I just feel like going through testing seems so daunting and stressful. It would be good to have that certainty of a diagnosis for sure though, because I feel like so many things would make sense throughout my life. How about you?

@POET everything you’ve said is basically how I look at the situation as well.

@Schztuna I’m not really sure, maybe I should just 4 the sake of if it helps me. Like you say too. I go to my GP soo much I feel they are annoyed  with me. But I think I should wen I bring in my samples, make an appointment. I think it might be a worthy idea, yes. Thanks u have given me some clarity. :relieved:

I was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome when 16. I developed Schizophrenia by the time I was 21/22

It is uncommon, but not so uncommon as to be rare.

I was diagnosed with Aspergers, anxiety, ocd, and depression and substance induced psychosis. I think it was pot. It then turned into paranoid schizophrenia or undifferentiated schizophrenia. I think schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder is more accurate and current.

I’m not sure why I was diagnosed with Asperger’s. It was after my psychotic break but before my schizophrenia diagnosis. It made sense. I guess everything makes “sense” to me lol.

I latched onto the diagnosis. I had insight problems and had social anxiety, depression, etc.

I would say two disabilities is worse than one disability.

It was on my inpatient paperwork when I got discharged from the hospital.

I was hoping to recover. I had really bad dissociation too.

I didn’t have any significant MH challenges before my diagnosis except prodromal, I guess. My grades went down hill but I was also in a more challenging, academic environment.

I think they just ignored my Asperger’s and I hung on to it.

I read schizophrenics can be or act more autistic. It’s a worse diagnosis to me.

My Asperger’s is not a problem for me. In fact, I view people who do not have it as being broken.
