I was hit by SZ in my 20s and I’m 54 now. The autism diagnosis happened later and kind of by accident. I can try and answer any questions you may have.

I’ve been diagnosed with schizophrenia for 19 years and yesterday i had a long mental status exam with a psychologist and he diagnosed me with autism. So now im diagnosed with both.

It seems like a rather large coincidence that there is such a frequent mix of sz/sza with autism. I know autism is more common these days/ or at least the diagnosis of it, but it still almost seems like there is a link.

Btw, Im sz and not aware of any autism, but then again, I’ve never been tested.

I have had seizures that are unexplained

And I think I might be on the spectrum. I intend to get tested asap

I believe there is a genetic component as they tend to run in the same families

Yes, having both schizophrenia and autism is a pretty common occurrence but I’m getting the feeling that autism may be misdiagnosed in patients with schizophrenia quite often also.

Both schizophrenia and autism have similar symptoms.

They are both very similar disorders

I’m glad I went to someone that specializes in identifying autism because when I was also diagnosed with sza my autism dx was questioned, but I have a long document outlining my autism symptoms so when I showed that I was stuck with both diagnoses

I’m technically Level 1, but my doctor disagrees with it as he feels I am probably more organized than he is. I don’t require supports, but I have asked for a couple mainly because they make my life more enjoyable.

Edit: I mean to say he thinks I’m an Aspie, but he feels the current levels don’t reflect the full spectrum of people with ASD.

I dont have autism as far as I know, but I am self diagnosed as a level 3 idiot.

At level 4 I gain the magic missile spell. Really looking forward to that.

Level 1 is what used to be called aspergers. Level 3 is classical autism
