Is it healthy to eat just one meal a day?

I don’t get a lot of exercise so I usually get hungry about 3 pm. If I get hungry before that I usually just snack on something small. I cook my dinner around 3.

No. That’s not healthy. My nurse says that we have to eat five meals a day. But not big amounts of food.

Eating one meal per day sounds unhealthy.
Try eating smaller meals throughout the day.

I think it’s fine. dr berg the youtube doctor suggests eating one or two meals a day. he says eating a lot of smaller meals leads to insulin resistance. I don’t know if that is the truth just passing along what he says.

I did one meal a day for a few months and lost about 20 pounds. the only downside is it seemed to slow down my metabolism and I eventually stopped losing weight. now I eat 2 or 3 meals a day and I get hungry more often than when I was only eating one big meal a day.

It’s a habit now though. I do snack if I get hungry during the day. I wonder if that makes a difference.

I think if you only eat one meal a day for an extended period of time it might be unhealthy because it would be hard to get all the nutrients a body needs for a whole day on a daily basis in just one meal. And especially if that one meal does not consist of healthy food. It would be hard to get the required protein, good carbs, enough servings of vegetables, fruit and dairy and grains that most healthy diets require in just one meal a day. Of course if you snack on veggies or fruit or dairy, it would help.

My nutritionist gives me hand-outs all the time showing healthy diets. Most require 4 to 5 servings of vegetables a day, 2 or 3 servings of fruit, a serving of meat, 3 or 4 servings of grains etc. It would be hard to cram all that into one meal. And I read study after study that says how important it is to eat a good healthy breakfast every morning to get you through the day. It just generally seems unhealthy to eat just one meal a day.

The problem is defining ‘healthy’ isn’t it?

Thought my brother mentioned something about the Japanese (or some particular group) that eats only one meal a day but they make it big meal?

Not sure.

But healthy? Getting lots of nutrients or eating 3 times a day?

I ate 3 times a day but gained lots of weight doing that and that was because I ate what everyone else ate.

Not a black and white answer to give here.

2 meals are okay I think. If you eat too often, it releases insulin every time you eat. So you will beg for more food by the hormone. When you eat especially carbs, it’s 7. But If you eat protein, it’s 5, and for fat, it’s 2 only. So I try not to eat too much carbs when I get hungry. Intermittent fasting like skippinng one meal a day would benefit your health becasue it doesn’t touch your insulin during fasting, but enough amount of food should be eaten for your metabolism. :purple_heart:

I have a brother with sz and he ended up getting put on these milkshakes because he was not eating enough. Eating one meal a day is not healthy. You will just end up with really bad health if you are starving your body of food. I would trade eating less for eating healthy.

We need many small meals

one meal a day is perfectly healthy, you have to find what works for you. in general less meals is better unless you have or are developing blood sugar problems
