or did I do this to myself with smoking marijuana and the isolation? is this punishment for all my misdeeds
It’s genetic.
are you certain
Yes
. 1 in 100 people develop it. It’s just bad luck.
it’s genetic. The genes led you into smoking and isolation.
50/50
@k.gall, you have to see a doctor and be formally evaluated. What you’re going through may have a very simple treatment, but you won’t know until you’re diagnosed by a medical professional.
Many places in the US have sliding scale fees, meaning that you aren’t charged more than you can afford. Look up community mental health centers in your area. They should be able to help you.
It’s not entirely genetic. It can also be caused by your environment. Such as childhood trauma or war. Check out the diathesis-stress theory. Or in lesser known cases, drugs. I have no known history of sz or sza in my family and still managed to develop it. I also had a real ■■■■■■ up childhood and used drugs heavily in my teen years (marijuana and alcohol mainly, but mdma once and pcp laced marijuana unknowingly once too).
TLDR: There’s no one cause and even doctors haven’t got it figured out🤷🏽♀️
once you have it. you’re stuck with it for life? I don’t have halluc or delusions but it feels like I’m living outside of my mind and could easily take my life if i wanted to
i smoked marijuana and brother abused me a bit. wonder if that trigered it
Nobody knows for sure. Schizophrenia twin and family epidemiological data suggests there is a genetic component. Also, there are cases of schizophrenia in which no known family member has the condition. Other risk factors may include viral infection in the mother during pregnancy, maternal malnutrition during pregnancy, stress early in life, older parents, and drug use. There seems to be a perfect storm of environment and genetcs that has to happen for the illness to occur.
my symptoms are it feels like my brain doesn’t have oxygen
locked in my own mind
poor sleep
can;t move my face
can’t concentrate
I don’t have halluc or delusions though
thoughts?
My thoughts are that this doesn’t sound like schizophrenia from your description, and that recent changes to the diagnostic criteria would require you to have either hallucinations or delusions in order for you to be diagnosed with sz. But none of us are doctors, and you really need to talk to a doctor.
Try community mental health centers. They can help you, even if you don’t have money or insurance. We can’t diagnose you here.
It’s genetic but those genes may have remained dormant if you had not smoked marijuana. Then again they may not have because other things can trigger them too.
I totally agree with that in my case. I think that my genes have been triggered by the violence and cruelty during my childhood. Without that, I may not have developed mental illness.
U’ll never know, maybe u would of gotten it abstaining from weed maybe not. But i bet if u have susceptibility to sz, regular marijuana use will guarantee to bring it out of you. I smoked grass too.
Some cases clear up on their own, some are chronic. I would DEFINITELY see a professional for diagnosis. Who knows, may not even be sz. I think delusions are a mandatory part of the diagnostic criteria of the DSM in the US. My brain is farting on all the psych classes I took so I’m not 100% on the accuracy of that last statement, but either way sz is not one of those things that you can self or online diagnose with or even go without treatment for due to the serious nature of it. Even if you don’t suspect it’s sz, the suicidal thoughts and dissociation are enough to warrant a visit to a professional. Take no shame.
Also, check out Kati Morton on YouTube too. She’s great for gathering information on different diagnoses and terms. Keep us updated and good luck, friend.
All established research points to a genetic link. It is a numerous genes that trigger a susceptibility to the illness.
Look at a guy like Prof. Timothy Leary. He took more LSD trips than a field full of hippies on a hot day. He never developed Psychosis or had any mental health problems. His brain was resilient enough to be fine throughout all those years of drug taking. Doesn’t it tell you something? People are predisposed to mental illness. It is not something you get, it is something you have.
