Is Clozapine worth it?

I’m up to 300 mg of Clozapine per day – 100 in the morning, 200 at night.

It has not erased my voices, or what I call the “monster” (demon, whatever), and the “wall”. it’s made it so that I am aware they’re not truth. Which means I’m slowly starting to do things again, between this and the ECT. (Which is amazing, except for the memory loss!)

Anyway… I have to get bloodwork done to check my CBC every week. Once I hit 6 months on the med, apparently I can drop to bi-weekly bloodwork. At a year, it will be once a month.

This medication – I have gained soooooooo much weight on it, and it makes it impossible for me to get up at a reasonable hour

And

Dealing with the doctor’s office and getting them to fax over a prescription every week… I( am constantly on the phone with them, and with Walgreens – Walgreens is always behind. There’s always a delay. They know – or should know – who I am by this point, and be able to take care of the prescription without my having to call them, constantly, every week. And I feel bad about it – like I’m a bother. But they’re not doing their jobs unless I, basically, harass them.

Anyone else have Clozaril/Clozapine issues?

Or find another AP that works well? I’ve tried several others.

I take 450mg a day of Clozapine and my biggest problem is drooling at night in my sleep.:drooling_face::drooling_face:

Ask your doctor about atropine sulfate. It is basically eye drops you put on your tongue. It helps with the drooling. :wolf::wolf::wolf:

@GrayBear Huh. Is it weird that my first reaction to that is, “Ew!”

But I’ll definitely ask. I don’t see him until mid/late March, so I’ll just have to live with it until then.

Thank you for the tip!

Except olanzapine, but it made me obese…

Unfortunately, Clozapine has caused me a huge amount of weight gain. I’m first starting effort in the hopes of taking it off.

Does at least something for me. When I run out, I feel it. I think it helps with voices.

I was overweight on clozeril but didn’t feel hungry, I just was in the habit of eating a lot and drinking alcohol every day ( which can cause seizers). I worked on clozeril and was doing well. I went off my meds after trying risperidone. Couldn’t return to work because I had broken in the meantime. My body had broken. I’d had three years of no voices. When they returned they were mean. Do you have night sweats too, nightmares, sweating?

I definitely get the sweats, but fortunately, I’ve been free of nightmares.

@rbrogan3 So far, what it’s done for me is help me realize that the voices are not real/I don’t have to listen to them. But I still have them to a certain extent.

It works very well for me. I just drool a lot at night.

I’m currently taking 600mg every night.

I went from clozapine to abilify

Abilify made my compulsive spending bad

Now im on clopixol and its been the best one so far but i cant lose weight, haven’t gained just can’t shed any weight. Numb anhedonia voices schizophrenia
I prefer clopixol though and side effects are preferable

It doesn’t sound good i know , sorry

None of the APs, in my experience, are good.

It’s just what is the most tolerable.

It works somewhat to me

Thank you! I feel better sometimes, where it’s noticeable to me.

It’s the combo of ECT/Clozaril. It’s supposedly up there with the best treatments for SZA, and definitely up there for treatment resistant SZA/SZ.
