Clozapine. Thoughts?

That’s what the med change is in the hospital. Anyone have any experience? I’m going in with the heads up about weight gain. I don’t care about that. I just want symptoms of sza gone.

Well for me Clozapine is the only med that has helped me. But I sleep 12 to 14 hours a night… I’m unmotivated during the day. I drool so bad at night I need a towel and then the monthly bloodtests. I hope it’s a positive thing for you.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have hard to treat sza. Other APs haven’t worked for me. I’m desperate to try anything

They say it’s the best.

My pdoc said this is the last line of defense because it always works

I really hope it works for you, @FatMama. I was on it for a few days while in hospital, but turns out I’m one of the rare people who have white blood cell issues with this med, so my pdoc stopped it immediately.

One thing I remember is that it increased my appetite a lot. I’d suggest having low calorie munchies on hand, just in case.

Yes my pdoc said weight gain was likely. But honestly I’d rather be 350 lbs and not messed up all the time. I just can’t take this anymore

I was on risperdal, clozapine, and something else. 3 APs. I got NMS. So I never had a chance to see if it really worked. I hope it works for you.

It’s a decent drug for a lot of people. Hope it works for you…I’m glad your worrying about getting well and not about the side effects. I think too many new punters buy into the side effect profiles without giving the medications a chance. I put on weight with risperdal and kept weight neutral on zyprexa. Finding a drug that works on your positives though is a revelation. Fingers crossed all goes well!

Yes, you will be sleepy and drowsy all day long, gain weight and drool while sleeping or while awake too! that’s been my experience. It helped though.

However my doc switched to paliperidone.

Thanks all. I hope it works for me. I’ll live with the side effects

I have been on Clozapine for a few years and it has helped me alot, it has kept me out of the hospital and I have been doing well with my symptoms. I was a non-responder to all of the other meds but Clozapine worked for me (this is typical).

That’s what pdoc said to me. I’m glad it’s working!

clozapine is the only med that has really helped me after trying 20+ other medications. after years of being on meds (many antipsychotics) i never gained much weight. i do drool a lot in my sleep and i sleep for long hours as well (if i dont take it its very hard for me to sleep)

Best in terms of performance. Worst in terms of side effects.

Goodluck dude, im on that as well… Yeah the weight gain is true…It helped me alot though.

My thought is that I’m never going to try it.

Its the best medicine for psychosis/sz/sza.

I dont care about the the side effects as well, cuz its so effective. I take 275mg. Im no longer paranoid.

i wet bed at night - so i wear adult diapers. I gained weight on it but im slowly losing weight now. I take a benzo(clobazam) for seizure induced by clozapine. Another benefit of this benzo is that i no longer wake up middle of the night to eat carbs/sugary food.
