Is cannabis a bad idea?

I’m pretty sure cannabis is a psychotic agent. I hallucinated on it in 2016 and became pretty paranoid. I feel a bit tempted to try it again as my flat mates smoke it, but I don’t want to jeopardize my mental health. I’m not even on meds at the moment. Would be nice if I could get high, but I’m gonna stay away, as I would like to go back to uni later this year, not back to hospital. Also I’m shocked at the number of schizophrenics who smoke weed. One of my flatmates is schizophrenic and he smokes it. Lot’s of people on the facebook forum also seem to smoke it.

Depends on the person. I get really paranoid on it, but my pain vanishes. I will just stick to pain pills and cbd until they legalize weed.

I’d stay away too.
I mean, let’s say you actually go into remission on no meds (something that all people here would kill for). I’m pretty sure smoking cannabis would undo that remission

I just had a really bad experience smoking weed. Everything was great for a few weeks, until I stopped sleeping!

There are very few members on this board who can get away with smoking weed. You probably are not one of them. I would stay away.

I have seen too many friends smoke weed and get messed up by it, I would stay deathly away.

I smoke everyday and have never had a negative experience,

But I’m not everybody.

It depends on the person and if you’ve had a bad experience in the past, you’re likely to have another one.

Its worth mentioning that the weed I smoke is prescribed by a doctor and also approved by my pdoc.

Kinda a big difference between medical weed and street weed.

I guess.

The medical weed is much stronger, if that’s what you mean.

Wow, your pdoc approves cannabis? I’m surprised. Most pdocs would say no to cannabis.

No,

My pdoc does not prescribe cannabis,

He approves of my use, that’s all.

I edited just as you wrote that reply lol

How bad was your schizophrenia? Did you have psychotic episodes, what were your old symptoms and do you still get any symptoms?

I’ve had psychotic episodes and several hospitalizations.

I still have symptoms even on medication.

Weed just never really had anything other than a positive impact on me so he told me if I want to continue to smoke, smoke.

You should talk to your doctor about it.

Generally,

I’d say cannabis is a bad idea for people with schizophrenia,

But for a few,

Its helpful.

My paranoia was so intense I am scared to try it. Don’t miss those days at all. I used to be scared to talk. Thought everything I said was recorded.

Have heard weed can make you paranoid. No thanks.

I haven’t touched the stuff in over 20 years. Did it a few times in high school and once or twice in college.

My wife smokes but it’s illegal here still. Even medically.

My therapist said she encourages it for anxiety.

I do cannabis with no problems from it.

If you have to take it, the recommended strain is one that has high CBD, which is an antipsychotic, and has low-to-no THC, which is what can worsen schizophrenia.

The more prudent course of action is to not take it at all.

So it doesn’t worsen your symptoms?
