The lowest dose?
I don’t want it to be so high
Are there lower doses?
He thought this was the lowest dose and messed up…
That’s the lowest dose for schizophrenia (10mg). 5mg is just used as an addon to an antidepressant for depression.
10mg is the lowest dose but its always better to go high then gradually decrease dosage until symptoms occur.
How does Abilify make you feel?
Whats the highest dose?
Highest dose is 30. I took it for a couple of years, it made me more social but I eventually developped serious side effects like gambling issues (Lost 80 000$ in bitcoins), drug addiction, hypersexuality (I would waste my money on multiple hookers in a single day) and compulsive shopping (Bought useless expensive stuff that I later threw in the trash) I was in big debt and my parents paid my debts. Without them I would be in prison or dead. Also Abilify increases drug pleasure and addiction, I was hooked up on weed and I started hanging out with bad friends that were trying to push me into cocaine. Weed made my psychosis worse and more aggressive. I stopped having these issues when I switched to Latuda. My psychiatrist said these are side effects that some people experience from Abilify. I would rather be less social than dying from drugs, STDs and debts. I left all my friends and I only go out for my psychiatrist apt. My parents gets my meds and food.
I used to take 30mg and loved it. It worked really well the first time I used it. I was on it for several years.
Can’t use it anymore, though, or I get a lot of side effects.
My psychiatrist said there is no perfect med for SZ. He said the best is Abilify but if you get side effects, you can’t use it. I found Latuda the best without serious side effects. On Latuda I can’t socialize. A perfect med for me would be something that blocks positive symptoms and that improve my social ability, e.g. making friends, going outside to get meds and hang out, etc
Good meds like Abilify and Clozapine have dangerous side effects.
This medicine gives me depression.
But then again
The other meds may do so to me too
Plus
This one is said to keep prolactin lower
And it has anticholinergic properties, a good thing in my books
I think its the opposite, anticholinergics are bad.
Xanomeline stimulates ACh muscarinic M1/M4 receptors and its a new antipsychotic in Phase 3. It showed remarkable improvements in positive, negative and cognitive symptoms. That’s the medicine I am betting my life on. Its the 1st and only med that significantly improves all SZ symptoms.
Sadly, it will take at least 10 years to be out in Canada😔
Anticholinergics could have vision digestive n memory issues as side effects that’s why I am concerned.
But it’s interesting to read about xanomeline
And perhaps it’s not a very strong anticholinergic I think that would make me more concerned but even then that doesn’t mean u will get those symptoms it just may increase ur risk.
Well I just took 10mg and my life has changed
I feel like I can make friends now!!!
Yay!
Im going to stick to this low dose for now
I am only taking a small dose of abilify and 200mg of lamictal
That will be all for now
And I will work on doing the rest of the work with alternatives
When does it come out in the US?
Idk but it will be in Phase 3 end of this year so in a couple of years.
@anon90843118 I don’t know if Abilify has an effect on Choline but I never read so and wikipedia doesn’t say that it has a cholinergic effect. It only affects dopamine and serotonin.
Edit: Its has negligible effect, not important, but they don’t say if its stimulatory or inhibitory:
it has negligible affinity for the [muscarinic acetylcholine receptors].
I have a major university degree in physiotherapy and took 4 psychology courses as electives in which I got 3 A’s and a B. My teacher asked me if I am interested in doing a degree in psychology because I was in the top 5 in some classes lol
I love psychiatry but my SZ is handicapping me😬
Wow well done for ur high grades!
Which ap are u on?
Latuda 80mg. I found it to be the best, more stable, less side effects. But I am still not as social as when on Abilify.
Does abilify make you feel really bad in the beginning?
No, for me it didn’t.
You want to start with the lowest dose to minimize the chance and severity of side effects. The body needs time to adapt to the medication, so the chance of side effects will be highest when starting a medication. Thus starting at 30 mg will likely result in more severe side effects than starting at 10 mg. Consequently, the person is more likely to stop taking the medication.
Go low and go slow.
Idk My psychiatrist always prescribed higher dosage to stabilize symptoms first. Then he focus on managing side effects by reducing dosage. He started me on 25mg Abilify then went down to 15. I am not saying go maximum dosage.
