My Abilify is giving me insomnia. My dr doesn’t allow sleep meds. I can take Doxepin (an old school antidepressant) and melatonin (a supplement). So I took both last night because I hadn’t slept in a week and a half. The trouble is it makes me sleepy all day too. So frustrating

What time are you taking abilify ?
9pm. It makes me sleepy for 3 hours and then I can’t sleep. If I take it in the morning I’ll be dysfunctional for a while. I have a lot of morning dr appointments

I changed the time of day I took it to 6pm and it made a huge difference to me. (I get up at noon and go to bed at midnight roughly)
You could try experimenting with the time of day you take it. But if it’s keeping you awake then the earlier the better (probably). Like what about 3pm even ?

Ok. I’ll try that. I like that I’m more outgoing on Abilify. I’m talking more. Still being followed but I think being more talkative is a positive thing.

How long ha e you been o. Abilify? I’m currently tapering down Geodon (for insomnia) and starting abilify. I’ve only been on abilify for a week and a half and I am hoping it works out.

Abilify was the first med they put me on when I was 16, it made me really tired, but that’s when my tactile hallucination dreams started, and then I took myself off it for 3 weeks because I thought I changed from it. Ask your pdoc if you can get a more sedating med

I couldn’t sleep the entire 2 months I was on abilify.
I just stayed in bed with my eyes closed for hours.
I would recommend trying PM aspirin or PM ibuprofen if you can’t sleep.
I don’t understand some doctors who ban an entire class of medications.
They know sleep is probably the #1 or #2 problem to make sz/sza worse, yet they won’t help someone who can’t sleep.
Yeah, I’m sorry, but if that happened to me I would sign up for a new doctor.

I sleep like crazy on abilify. My sleep schedule is currently flipped where i stay up all night, sleep all day. It’s horrible lol.
Have you tried that sleepy time tea? that might help a little

I refuse to take Abilify because not only does it make my psychosis worse, but it can cause insomnia.

@LilyoftheValley hope you got some sleep. Sometimes an additional antipsychotic can help, it did for me. I slept 11 hours last night when I was sleeping 4-6. My pdoc mentioned either benedryl, hydroxyzine, perphenazine, zyprexa, or fluphenazine. That’s the list she gave me. Maybe you can take that list to your pdoc or if the do med changes over the phone, write them down and be prepared to come up with a solution

I’ve tried benedryl and it didn’t work. I used to be on fluphenazine but it didn’t make me tired. I’ll go with a list of the rest though.

I had it too in the past. Abilify made me have bad sleep. Now I take 90mg and I sleep very much without problem
