What AP were you on that gave you insomnia? Was it really from that AP or was it another factor you were experiencing insomnia at the time?
I had bad insomnia when my Geodon was really high. I would fall asleep randomly throughout the day, and then when night came I couldn’t get to sleep. Now that I am on a lower dose my sleep cycle is healthy most days.

I get insomnia when I forget to take my night time meds on time. My night time meds knock me out and put me to sleep every night, so, I got to be sure and take them on time.

I never got insomnia from APs, in fact after being on it for a long time I find myself being unable to sleep without it, I’m pretty sure it’s withdrawals, but I always found APs to be sedating.

Hi Treebeard. I know this is an old topic but you mentioned you had insomnia from Abilify and I just really wanted to know if it eventually went away? How long did it took to go away? I’m suffering horrible insomnia from abilify and it has been 3 months.
It never went away. I was on Abilify for four months. I had to switch meds
oh no. What helps you sleep now? It’s making me depressed. I absolutely had perfect sleep before they gave me abilify.

I had perfect sleep before Abilify, too. I think you just need a med change. A more sedating AP will probably work. I’m on Seroquel, which is also used for sleep, although I would probably be fine on any AP that isn’t activating like Abilify.
Thanks Treebeard. I’m not even schizophrenic or bipolar at all. Antipsychotics weren’t meant for me. They just gave me this for anxiety/depression. From the very first abilify pill I already developed insomnia and they gave me pills for 2 weeks then they gave me an 400mg Abilify Maintena injection. I’m now off 3 months from all medication trying to recover from this thing. I just want to ask what do you think are the chances I recover my normal sleep?
If it’s because of Abilify, I think you will definitely recover your sleep.

No AP has ever given me insomnia, but i have found some were more sedating than others. Ziprasidone, for instance, would never put me to sleep. I take the highest dose and will still be wide awake at night. Clozapine, however, quite sedating, so my sleep cycle has improved with this.
