I have an old Iphone SE and computer with windows 8. Am I understanding correctly that in july I will no longer be able to participate here at SZ.com?

Discourse’s minimum supported iOS version will be updated from 15.7 to 16.7. After that, visitors using older versions of iOS will be shown a basic-html version of community content, and won’t be able to login or interact with the site.

Devices limited to iOS 15 are the iPhone 6s, iPhone SE (gen 1), iPhone 7, and iPad Mini 4. These were all released more than 9 years ago, and are no longer updated by Apple (see iosref.com). Unfortunately, it will not be possible to interact with Discourse on those devices going forwards.

For more recent iOS devices, the OS should be updated to iOS 16.7 or higher.

This change will also affect older versions of other browsers. The minimum Firefox version with support for these features is v128 (July 2024), and the minimum Chrome(ium) version is v119 (Oct 2023).

he original version of this announcement listed 1st May 2025 as the cutoff date. Based on community feedback, that has been pushed back to July 2025.

Download a browser like Firefox or chrome for windows 8 and hey presto! You’re good to go

I think my windows 8 computer doesnt have updates available anymore? I will need a new computer with windows 10 or higher I believe.

Firebox and chrome are 2 browsers that have nothing to do with Microsoft. You can download them separately.

Just access it through a Web browser like Brave and not through an app on the phone. You can likely do the same on your computer. If you’re comfortable with it you can replace the OS on your older computer with a version of Linux that has a small resource footprint. It will run well and be more secure than your version of Windows.

OS Ubuntu is free.

I use Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS its so fast start and power off. its faster than a phone

Hi. I believe you will still be able to access the forum on any browser. On your phone, using the web browser should work just fine. On your PC, it’s the same. Only the app will stop being functional, as far as I know.

I have an old phone (Samsung A51) will I be locked out of the forum too?

I figured in July I will only have my desktop which is windows ten. It will suck not being able to access this forum on my phone and portable computer. Maybe it is a good thing for me to be limited to access to this forum.

I’d go with Linux Mint instead Gnome can be resource intensive on old machines.
