Thinking erik ericson didn’t consider psychotics when he wrote stages of development theory. I am 42 years old and aside from parenting which i do ok at, I do not lead the life of some one my age posession wise, career wise, financial health wise, and such. I get discouraged about the whole thing. Today I made an appointment with a career counselor at the community college i’m taking classes at, I really hope they can help me. What is the 40s for sz or the 50s or how do we plan for retirement really?
Not everybody else is like that desimb. Do you think EVERYBODY is more successful than you? Because they’re not. Certainly not the bag lady I saw crossing the street today.Ask her what her thoughts are on her life and career. Even in this day and age there are women who rely solely on their husbands and don’t have a college degree. And plenty of 20-something able-minded males do nothing but do drugs and depend on their parents and not only do they not work, they go around causing trouble. At least with your part-time job, and education you are a better member of society than them. You may never be the CEO of HP or Intel but you have a shot at a good job. I’ve been working but I don’t have the education you have and never will. Peoples lives and experiences overlap. Not everybody fits into a narrow box in a straight line. But it’s OK to feel that way sometimes. We have a hard row to hoe. But you are better in life than some people. You need the right perspective and the right people to tell you how good you’re doing. I have my family , my therapist, and my psychiatrist to remind me of what I’ve got going for me. Going to school is a great accomplishment that many Americans will never achieve. Hopefully you will stumble into the right niche in the job market like I have countless times. Good luck.
For me success is not measured by how much money or wealth one has - I have always admired people that do good things in their life - people that help others in need
Sure, Ghandi, Mother Teresa, Jesus. But Bill Gates and Warren Buffet help people too.
I have always admired Warren Buffet and Bill Gates for their giving attitudes - I mean some rich people have heart
I’m very torn on my feelings about Bill Gates. He was ruthless building Microsoft but when he retired he spent his time supporting charitable works. He’s a smart man and I think genuinely wants to make the world a better place but boy was Microsoft evil under his watch.
This one seems to be about men, but here is Shakespeare’s take on the stages of life:
All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms.
Then, the whining school-boy with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like a snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then, a soldier,
Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden, and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then, the justice,
In fair round belly, with a good capon lined,
With eyes severe, and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws, and modern instances,
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.
