Good day people. I have’nt created a topic in quite a while but I need some advice and encouragement.
I’ve been on Abilify for roughly a decade. On my previous visit to my psychiatrist I asked him about Rexulti. He said that he supports me to change over to Rexulti.
I’m on 25mg Abilify. From tomorrow I will start to cross taper Abilify and Rexulti. I will take 1mg Rexulti for 4 days, then 2mg for 7 days then up to 3m maintenance dosage. I will taper down on the Abilify at the same time.
This decision to change comes from November last year so I have really give it some thought.
The thing is that I had some breakthrough symptoms whilst on Abilify but it kept me out of hospital. What if Rexulti is worse for me? Tomorrow is D day for me.
Thanks @anon70814080 . Fortunately my medical aid covers it although I have a 10% copayment. I’m doing the switch mainly because it has less side effects like you said.
I took abilify for over a decade much like yourself and I made the swap to Rexulti a few years back. I was actually on both briefly. I am now on Rexulti 2 mg and olanzapine ODT as well. Rexulti has less side effects for me. I don’t get that over buying overspending compulsivity side effect as much. Rexulti helps my anxiety more too I think. It is quite expensive but I have good insurance coverage like you do.
I’ve been prescribed 3mg Rexulti but am taking only 2mg each day. The difference in a few areas between 2mg and 3mg is significant. Those areas: sexual function, palpitations, and tiredness. I have adequate sexual function on 2mg, few palpitations and only sleep for about an hr after taking it. The reason I feel justified in taking 2 mg, is they punitively increased me to 3 when i was stable on 2mg. The punitive was because of conflicts with patients and staff. I had agitation but no other positives.
