I'm researching assisted-living facilities

As I’m getting older the isolation and my symptoms are really getting to me.

I know for some people with sz/sza their symptoms get better as they get old.

I think for me it feels like my symptoms are getting worse.

I am just tired of living on my own.

Anyone got any tips on assisted living? Is it better than living alone? Or is living in a “regular” apartment complex better?

It sounds like a good idea to me.

I would love to go to an Assisted living center, but in my state they don’t take my insurance and I couldn’t afford it on my own, they are very expensive.
Some of them cost 100 thousand and more a year!

I am getting worse as I’m aging and supportive housing is not for me - I would need more support.

Do you just want companionship,

Or do you really feel like you need an assisted living facility?

I’ve been doing some research on assisted living as well. There are many styles of assisted living like small group homes, centres, etc… I’m easily fueled by other peoples delusions so I would only fair well in a small group home with HF folks who go amongst their own business, go to work, go to school, etc. I signed up for this type of setting and I even looked up reviews online to pick out the best ones. These ones have long wait lists so it’s good to sign up asap.

Do you live in government housing?

@Wave That’s crazy some of them cost that much! But I suppose you factor in all the assistance you get in housing like that (meals, on site psychologist, pharmacy).

I probably don’t qualify. Unless if they take VA insurance. Hmmmm

Are you on Tricare from the military?

You could call them direct to learn about your options…

Like facilities and costs associated with them.

@GoldenRex I do want companionship.

But I’m unsure if I really need an assisted living center, or if I just need to be in a more supported type environment.

I live in what’s called a subsidized apartment, so I think the proper answer is yes. I get govt assistance.

My grandmother had Tricare and Medicare and she didn’t pay anything out of pocket to live in a nursing home but assisted living may be different.

The thing is in my state I don’t qualify to live in a group home 24/7 supervision.
I only qualify for Supprtive Housing, this is what I have now but it doesn’t provide enough support.

I don’t think I’m on Tricare.

Is that the program you have to enroll in before you separate from the service?

I’m unsure if I’m enrolled in that.

Which State if I may ask

It would be the name on your insurance card.

If it doesn’t sound familiar, you’re probably not on it.

Do you think you could handle having a regular roommate?

I mean, what is the living situation you want, that you think would be good for you?

Louisiana. She died a few years ago at Christmas. She was 93.

If you are medically retired you have Tricare.

I’m sorry for your loss @TomCat

I think I could handle a roommate.

Although I do a poor job of taking care of my living space and my hygiene.

Living with others who have some type of mi/and or other veterans would be nice.

Thanks. She lived a long life. Had her wits about her until the end. She got the flu and her body couldn’t fight it anymore.
