I was planning on getting in some lettuce and some more kale, maybe some cabbage and some other greens. like planting sometime in September. but now I just want a break from it for awhile. I don’t have the same enthusiasm I had at the start of the growing season. I think one spring/summer planting is all im going to do this year. maybe I will, but I doubt it. it’s such a chore for me to water and weed all week. Im struggling with it. the thing I like the least is bringing in the hose from the yard every time I have to mow the grass. I have 200 ft of hose. I don’t know maybe im just lazy.
My brother is a gardener. Well, his job title is foreman in a construction company, but at heart, hes a gardener. This year he didnt do any gardening because he just needed a break for a season. I dont think you’re being lazy at all.
me in my gardening hat.
@anon99233869 thanks maybe next year I will be feeling better and can grow in the fall also.
Weeding is easier with a hoe when the weeds are tiny. I used a special tool I made. Garden weasels are good, too. If you go over it a few times a week it’ll be easy.
I used a tuna can and made something like this
how clever of you @anon4362788. very resourceful. I do have a hoe, but tend to pull the weeds by hand. maybe it’s time for a change…
this year I grew, kale, mustard greens, beets and beet greens, jalapenos, onions, and tomatoes. and I established some perennial herbs. marjoram, thyme, oregano, sage and in containers, peppermint, spearmint, and catnip.
I also bought some watermelon plants but ended up getting rid of them
it will be the same next year, except I hope to also grow some spinach, cabbage, lettuce, and arugula in the spring and again in the fall. I started about two weeks late on the lettuce and other cool season crops this year. that’s why I didn’t grow any. next year I will know to plant last week in march or first week in april.
all I have to do now, is keep harvesting my greens and then in September im going to clean the beds and cover them with tarps for the winter, that way they’ll be ready to go next spring with just a little fertilizer.
I was hoping to compost but I really don’t have the greens to collect, my yard is all weeds it seems. maybe will start collecting my food scraps. need to learn more about composting.
also I expanded my garden from 2 raised beds to 5, that is enough for me. and I put in a garden border and some red mulch for my walking paths. not sure if I will take up the red mulch and put all new down next year or if I will just add some more red mulch on top of it. the garden is as big as it’s going to get unless I miraculously get more motivation and energy. I had plans for like 20 raised beds and to grow a significant portion of my food. but that’s not going to happen unless there is some kind of depression and hyper-inflation on food prices. it’s just way more convenient to buy from the grocery.
You look so spiffy in your gardening hat!
I think you should continue.
Gardening is very healing and it’s so good for you to touch the soil and grow nice things etc
Yes it’s hard work but it is worth it.
I have only ever planted once per year. It’s too much do do it more than that for me at least.
You look so happy in the self wearing your gardening hat. I’m proud of you! I don’t know many people who plant and weed and grow and harvest as much as you do. I admire you!
After reading that I got all excited about da garden weasels. I was about to go the pet store to get some weasels to put in the backyard to chill with but then I realised…is not same weasel
Yard full of weasels ah das da dream
I’ve been weeding my mum’s garden around the sides, but there is loads more to do, the fence and shed needs painted and the patio needs cleaned and painted/protected also the decking, and im hoping to help her design her garden and plant things that will grow around the edges like brambles or shrubs/ferns, I want to help her find some nice potted plants too, ATM it is a mess but I’m hoping to chip away at it.
My own garden has loads of potential, I cut down a bush to my shame thinking it was overgrown, but it should grow back, I’m wanting a little plastic green house thing too and some planters, I’ve got 2 pots ready to be potted with fresh soil, really wish we had an outside tap though BC it’s so much harder filling up the watering can all the time.
I’m sitting in my cousins garden atm and it’s nice, she uses solar lights at night too which is nice, she’s got loads of plants including fresh strawberries ready to be picked.
Here’s a pic or two…
Can you spot the strawberries?
