I'm gonna try quitting smoke cigarettes

I’m having one now and there is 4 left in my pack. Should last me til the afternoon. My husband will be gone til late tonight since he has school after work. I have a big box of nicotine gum from my last attempt (made it one week) just going to start chewing right when this pack is done. My lungs are messed up from smoking. That’s the one thing I am most ashamed of.

That’s a good one. I just need to get threw the irritation you get when you stop. After one week I was getting so angry with my kids. That’s when I had one. I didn’t want them to suffer because of me being extremely irritable.

I’ve smoked since before I was diagnosed so I am not sure what I would be like with my symptoms without it.

Just this morning I tried to smoke an old dried-out cigar after smoking regular cigs for about a week. Mucho coughing and gagging. I have a new bunch of patches, so I think today is another day one of trying to quit. On board with you @Saywhaat! Hope this time I don’t screw it up.

Yeah I have been coughing nasty stuff for a year now. I’ve smoked since I was twelve and only quit when I was pregnant. Went right back to it two months after giving birth. I hope you can do it as well. We got this.

yeah I got a pack of menthols and I regret it… regular cigs are a lot easier to cope with.

@Saywhaat try NRTs, either patches, gums, or lozenges. I personally had success with lozenges. Just follow the program and you’ll quit.

maybe you’re used to it… it kind of itches and makes me cough if I try to breath deeply… has that choke to it.

I do like the menthol flavor… but Yeah I can’t smoke a whole pack of them… I usuallly just stick to the camel lights… while they aren’t the most satisfying… they do have a lower impact on lungs over time…

I’d advise that you consider getting away from nicotine entirely… it can seem like a daunting thing to most smokers… but it only takes 20 hours for nicotine to drop to medically negligible levels…

from there it’s all healing… cravigns come and go, but they do pass… and they do get easier… a lot easier…

The trick is allowing yourself to love with the idea of a life without them… and in love with yourself not having them as a factor…

but yeah one 24 hour stint without ingesting nicotine… and you really will hit your body with a wake up call… let it know that it needs to start taking care of itself…

When I get to that state, I really like knowing that every hour is another hour of my cellular being being further adjusted… except I get about 2 days into it and then start fancying a cigarette… I mean they are just sort of rugged and cool… they’re a reasonable think to think behind… they are a bonding tool… and as soon as I prove to myself they don’t actually control me… I’m usually more inclined to start appreciating them more positively…

I’m backing away from smoking again today… I coincidentally also have 4 cigs left… know someone else will be fighting through it if it helps.

Have you tried Chantix? I don’t know what insurance you have but it definitely reduced my chew cravings. Aka Wellbutrin.

have you tried vaping? you can get an ecig for like 30$ and it’s cheaper and better for your lungs in the long run

Yeah good luck. It’s a hard thing to do but so worth it. l still think it was the greatest thing I ever did for my health and you recover quicker than you think! I got off with champix…it was a pretty easy process and it worked great. Sometimes you just need that little help to get it done but gum is one of those things!

Good luck!
