Have any of you successfully quit smoking?

I have not succeeded in quiting smoking, have any of you had success in doing so or failure, how have you succeeded/failed?

When I do decide to quit, I’ll try the Patch. When I was hospitalized, they slapped one of those on my arm and my cravings went away.

@patrick yeah it’s been a battle the times I tried to stop, my best success was on the gum. It was like the mountains to climb went away, and I didn’t need to smoke or worry about it. But when the drinks starting flowing, I thought it was ā€œokā€ to smoke. Then waiting in the terminal for my flight, I smoked again and continued to smoke😭

I quit for a week but the cravings were so bad so i thought that maybe i should smoke a cig to calm down and after that one cigarette i smoked another and another and another and you know how it goes. I aint even trying no more cause i know that i’m not ready to kick this habit yet. Well At least i quit fooling myself!

@sickandsad yup that thought of just one smoke is manageable at first, then it becomes to unbearable, and the thought of just one being okay is a damn lie… You know how the story goes from there.

I have successfully taken breaks

Today is (again) day one for me. I use nicotine gum and it helps. I just told myself, ā€œI’m doneā€ and ā€œit’s good to be a nonsmokerā€ I don’t want to die a long death with cancer. I hope it’s not too late.

I vape and can’t remember the last time I had a real cigarette. It must be a year and a half now.

I quit smoking after 20 years by using chewing tobacco. Now I’m trying to quit chewing tobacco by using nicotine gum :expressionless:

Quitting smoking’s easy I’ve done it many many times.

I quit smoking over 24 years ago. Took up vaping last month after my doctor took away my Effexor. Nicotine helps. The vape isn’t nearly as addictive. I find myself forgetting to use it for 2 or 3 days in a row with only the mildest of nicotine cravings. Entirely manageable.

I vape for a treat like Friday night and with my coffee in the morning. I use nicotine lozenges otherwise. It has my stamina back, cardio is no problem for me. Running and boxing are my cardio habits- box in the summer run in the cold and mild months.

I finally quit smoking about 5 years ago after 4-5 attempts. At first I tried gum and vape. I remember gum was no help. Vaping was counter-effective because it just made me want to smoke a real cigarette. Then I used this book

It worked! It takes a little time to analyze yourself but I think it will work if you’re self-analytic type and serious about quitting smoking.

Interesting. I’ve had ciggy cravings for nearly a quarter of a century. I find the vaping gets rid of them without the compulsion to smoke a real cig. Also, vape juice comes in interesting flavours (root beer!). I’ve reached the point where cigarettes and cigars taste like ass to me.

Have heard Alan Carr’s easyway to stop smoking’s successful. Hasn’t done anything for me though.

I have quit for just over nine years now. I tried the patch, gum, spray and I finally was able to stop with Zyban. I did smoke for eighteen years and it was difficult to quit. I am very much happy I did quit. I live with two smokers in the same house and sometimes the cravings resurface after all these years. It is a good feeling to be a non smoker.
