Its going to be a freshwater 29 or 30 gallon tank. My favorite fish are catfish species, so I’m going to have 6 cory cats and 1 clown pleco. There will be other community fish as well, but I want to keep smaller fish as 30 gallons isn’t a lot of room, and one big fish has more waste than a few smaller fish. It is supposedly great for mental health both for being a fun hobby, and the relaxing effects of watching and listening to the aquarium.
I had an aquarium about 8 or 9 years ago, but I didn’t do enough research then. This time I will be better prepared.
I’ll share that I’ve been considering starting a Fancy Goldfish aquarium with the Fantail or the Oranda varieties. I used to keep fish as a boy like Angel Fish, Glass Fish, and a few others. Had a ten gallon tank for many years. I loved listening to the pumps and filters at night. Best wishes for you. Let us know how it goes.
Will do! Good luck in your aquarium aspirations as well! An aquatic turtle is also an option, but I’m not sure if I want to go with fish or a turtle. Fortunately aquatic turtles don’t like to be handled much, so my tortoise wont get too jealous.
There is a specialty fish pet store about an hour from me. They sometimes stock various tarantulas. Also another option for me and probably more likely.
Tarantulas are great! I really want one, but the folks say not in this lifetime… Maybe when I graduate college and get my own place.
There is a poster here who is pretty knowledgeable about tarantulas, even started his own youtube channel, but I cannot remember his name for the life of me.
Have you thought about what species you’d like? I want a cobalt blue, but they are pretty aggressive. I hear Mexican red knee tarantulas are like the spider version of puppies.
Check out exotic liar on youtube, he does a bunch of great tarantula feeding and unboxing videos.
Thinking the Pink Toed variety for my first. But I still have much more research before I dive in. Basically I need to have a reliable vendor for their food needs.
The reason I love living in modern times is that just about everything that you need is available online.
Here’s a good website for crickets and other dietary needs for insectivores:
I’m pretty sure there are others as a back up, but I’ve heard good things about them. The only trick is to not wait too long to order before you run out.
I used to keep lots of types of fish, but I got rid of my tanks now. I had snakeheads, piranahas, cichlids, plecos, goldfish lots of things really. But I dont really have a place for them in the house I moved into so I had to shut all my tanks down.
