I love , love, love science fiction and am still currently reading “the foundation trilogy” by isaac asimov. yay…any science fiction readers here? I would like to read more science fiction if it’s classic.
I read a lot of sci fi and fantasy. I like escapist fiction for sure and there’s plenty of great reads out there.
what are some of your favorites @rogueone ?
Try Edgar Rice Burroughs works.
any titles in particular that you are fond of of burroughs works?
Robert Silverberg was my favorite sci Fi writer of all time.
Please tell me you didn’t just Barsoom the poor guy.
@jukebox , i don’t read science fiction because due to paronioa I think it is written for me and I also read my name in somewhere there.
Favourite authors are AA Attanasio, JG Ballard, Ray Bradbury…I’ll pretty much read most sci fi and fantasy though.
oh ! I read some bradbury not long ago…loved it…used to read all his books when I was growing up. I will remember Jg and aa.
@rogueone, i like you. You are a real man. But I wonder you like fictions, fantasies etc.
Good morning sir.
I love science fiction as well, though not so much the “golden age” stuff, although I can recommend a great story from 1950, by Cordwainer Bird, called “Scanners Live In Vain”. Fantastic stuff. Authors I enjoy include AA Attanasio, Greg Bear, Gene Wolfe, Ian MacDonald, William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Roger Zelazny, and the amazing Harlan Ellison.
My two favorites are “Stranger in a Strange Land” and “Tau Zero”… can’t think of the authors though.
Have you watched The Invasion on Apple TV? Battlestar Galactica? The 2000s Battlestar is my favorite tv series of all time. I plan on rewatching when I turn 30.
interesting…we have the complete seasons on battlestar gallactica on netflix cue but it is way down there…I have about 300 movies on cue on my netflix. ha
My dissertation for History was based on Sci Fi
It was 10 years ago now, and my brain has taken a battering since
I remember my focus was Eugenics, and how this influenced some dystopian visions of the future
Was super interesting
We read most of the classics, but as I say, too long ago
Still watch sci fi movies, but I have not read a book cover to cover for a very long time
Solaris! by Stanisław Lem. The movie (Tarkovski) is pretty good aswell, but it´s very different from the book. I think the book is better!
I liked “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury. It was made into a movie and is available on YouTube.
Poul Anderson. I used to have a bumper sticker that said “MY OTHER CAR HAS A BUSSARD RAMJET.”
I can recommend a couple books but you probably won’t read them. I used to really be into S-F in high school and read all kinds of novels and short stories. Coincidentally, both books are by Robert A. Heinlein. Orphans of the Sky stands out in my memory as a good book. And the other by Heinlein I like is Time Enough for Love. Time Enough for Love is an epic story. I can’t really describe it but it’s worth reading.
