oh I love science fiction…was brought up reading Ray Bradbury and Heinlein. love it…do you like science fiction? what’s some of your favorites?
I never read science fiction. But all my favourite science fiction movies are from the 80s.
Star wars(1977 though), empire strikes back, return of the jedi , blade runner, back to the future, star trek the movies etc etc.
I think science fiction is at a dead end now. There’s been nothing interesting since the matrix in 1999.
Madeline Lengle
Ursula k leguin
Herbert
Asimov
I read a lot more but I can’t think of it right now
I disagree. I think science fiction is nowhere near dead
Our problem is that the reading level is so low in this country that if you want to find something interesting in blockbuster film then you have to wait 10 years for another good one to come out. Compare transformers to The matrix. In fact, you could compare the matrix sequels to the matrix lol
I could never decide between fantasy and science fiction growing up so I read a lot of fantasy that I wouldn’t list here. I like Ursula k leguin because she does both
I love Heinlein and Asimov! I haven’t read anything recent but Stranger in a Strange Land was one of my favorite books of all time for fiction. The last science fiction book I read was Isaac Asimov’s Nemesis and that was pretty good. Of course you can’t beat the foundation trilogy, I’ve never watched nor read more than the original trilogy.
What appeals to you about science fiction?
funny you should mention “the foundation trilogy” because presently I’m reading that…going to give it up though because it’s too long for me…I love science fiction because I like space travel and the universe. like to think it’s a reality some day.
Well, I don’t like the aspect of the expanse that attempts to map a future Creole( I think it could have been done a lot. Better )
Other than that I agree with @shutterbug that the expanse is notably developed in new, worthy of our praise
Polite disagreement - I loved the Belter Creole. Probably because I understand French Creole. I also found the language to be very well constructed in the novels.
I haven’t read the novels. I think earlier we’ve argued about this and you said that the novels did a better job than the TV show did?
I’m in New Orleans now, but I haven’t really met someone who’s been speaking Creole yet. It would be cool to hear.
The TV show only scrapes the surface of the novels - they are an intellectual treat. About the only time where the video exceeded the source material was Lord of the Rings IMO. I love Tolkien to bits, but the d00d needed an editor. Of course no one edits an English professor at Oxford, so…
You may like this book:
Read it and loved it. Helluva thing to wrap your mind around, however.
Yeah, my dad got me to read that in high school. One of the best science fiction books ever. If you haven’t read Time Enough For Love I would recommend reading it; it’s also by Heinlein. You’re in for a treat.
I read winnie the pooh before. The honey jar has a perfect diameter for honey and the volume of honey is accurate to the millileter.
Mmmmmmmm honey
Sincerely the pooh bear scientist.
I was never much of the book reader
I used to watch Lost in Space on TV all the time though when I was young
The movie with William Hurt was just awful. The new 2018 TV series wasn’t awful, but boy was it poorly paced.
I’m pretty much a sci fi and fantasy nerd but there’s heaps I haven’t read. Highlights are JG Ballard. Surrealistic and so good and pretty much Ray Bradbury on something. So many good authors and stories and I love the escapism of it all even though a lot of sci fi is about the human condition.
I never read science fiction, but I sure did love watching Game of Thrones. It was super good. I’m sure I’d love the books
