Book Club #1

So continuing for those trying to read a bit more. Bought like this 100 story Ray Bradbury bundle on my kindle and loving it lots. Read heaps of Bradbury when younger but yet to hit a story I’ve read so it’s cool as mustard. Still. Kindle ran out of juice last night and only got one story in…I’ve been reading 2-3 stories a night. Most are short but like 10 - 20 minutes to read at my speed…

If you like old fashioned Sci Fi I recommend Bradbury. He’s very humanistic and not so much the technology. It’s a lovely mix of emotion with little stories that make you think. He often delibritely used non technical terms like calling spaceships Rockets and such. It’s quaint but it’s great quality sci fi. He actually wrote a few episodes of those classic tv episodes of the Twighlight Zone and should be a must read in the American literature canon. …My recommendation for May 2022!

I grew up reading bradbury…just finished farenheit 451 a couple years back…very good writer…very good suggestion…right now I am neck deep in books to read…still chugging away at “the foundation trilogy” by isaac asimov…then dune…then the bible…in that order…I read the bible weekly but need to give it a run through all the way through again.

I’ve read some Asimov. Will add Foundation to my list! Dune is great in my book. Lots don’t like it but re read recently after seeing the first movie. It’s very good if you like it but it’s an acquired taste!

“the foundation triloogy” apparently has been made into a series in sci fi movies…it’s called “foundation” I think…might check it out…yes dune is great.

When I got out of the hospital, my first hospitalization, the adolescent ward at a state hospital, I had trouble reading and found Bradbury the most accessible of writers. I remember his stories ran about ten pages usually and I would read one a night. I dreamed of a day I could get lost in books and read for hours at a time. That day never came, I still read about ten pages at a time and have decided I’m too lost already to get lost in a book. I don’t want to discourage anyone, I sometimes get lost in my musical instruments, and writing.

I decided to stick with one book at a time, though I don’t feel the need to read at all. I’m still reading Roxanne Gay, who is my current fav.

YouTube videos, vlogs of people who read a lot give good ideas of books to read and learning about different authors in documentaries are cool.

I love quote books so much  its like the condensed wisdom of many works compiled into one work. Only thing if you have to be careful of is the context of the quote to make sure you understand it properly.

For a while kindle was giving away a collection of free e books because it was reading month or something. Dunno if thats still on.

I recently downloaded the kindle app. May eventually get a e reader. I also tend to read faster on a screen then a paper book. I dont necessarily choose fiction to read, but those i did read i loved.

I’ve been reading a lot of newish sci fi books like A Memory Called Empire, Gideon the Ninth, the Murderbot Diaries and really enjoying them. I only recently started getting into sci fi so I’m not too familiar with the classics. I got a kindle a few months ago and I love it, no glare and really light and easy to hold in one hand.

I’ve was reading a manga, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Studio Ghibli made it into an anime movie. Fantastic.

I’d like to try reading again. I’d have to start over, though, with the manga. Reading is difficult for me, these days.

I also struggle with this. I don’t know what it is? I just don’t have the patience to read anymore. Or I can’t focus. I read for 5-10 minutes and then I’m done.
