Reading sci-fi for the first time

I don’t know if I like it or not. I think it’s a bit over stimulating for this old lady.

I’m not much into sci fi but I have enjoyed some book.

Wow, what are you reading if you don’t mind me asking ? I used to love sci-fi movies. The only sci-fi book I remember reading was “contact” by carl sagan.

I’m reading a huge book of more than 500 pages to boot. It’s the unabridged version of Robert Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land.

I’m ashamed to say I’ve never heard of that despite being a sci-fi fan. I hope you enjoy it !

I’m scared of it…:slightly_smiling_face::heartbeat:

I watched a sci to short movie on YouTube today. It was about parallel universe and time travel. Someone fell in love with someone a human in another space and time. And I heard there is a woman who went to work one morning and her job wasn’t there.

I love reading sci-fi. It is kinda like an interesting escape from the real world for a short time.

I liked Stranger in a Strange Land, but it was definitely a weird one!

I don’t know about new ones but the old ones of my childhood (which I found in my brother’s room) were written from a male point of view.

I read Dune. I really liked the first book. Ones after that I didn’t have the intelligence for.

I started Stranger in a Strange Land long enough to learn the word ‘grock’.

That is the reason I got the book, @pob I was curious about “grock”. Was that an invented word from the author’s pen?

Ok.,

Here!.,

Trie thus!.,

Start a bonfire.,

With evry book inn your house, room whatever.,

Get a bible.,

And!.,

And!.,

Fynde sum 'choose your adventure ’ books, and start over.,

Alanis already got thus message.,

Maybe replace books with podcasts?!.,

So.,

Safely, burn your books, make some campfire Smores, and watch tha fire clean your soul.,

Grab a bible for inspiration, and secretly answer thoze tuff questions.,

Thaz all you guys need!.,

Yap!. Yap!.

That’s really cool you’re reading “Stranger in a Strange Land.”

I own a copy of that, but I’ve never read it.

My favorite sci-fi book is probably Philip K. Dick’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.”

Yes, I think the author made it up. I like the meaning and not the sound.

I just googled it. It’s spelled without a c - grok.- to drink in all aspects of reality.

does it say. anything about the origin of the word?

“coined” by Robert Heinlein, the author of Stranger in a Strange Land.

My dictionary says to know and understand intuitively … and sympathetically.
