If you run over a pedestrian

Because voices said so, do you have responsibility?

I don’t want to but if a voice commands me? It’s still my responsibility?

It is your responsibility because you don’t choose to address the issue.

The law will see it the same way.

YES. You can’t control the voices, but you can control your response to them. Call your doctor right away and give someone else your car keys!

So persuasive voices can’t be an excuse?

No they can’t be an excuse. If you run someone over because of voices, you will be locked up in a mental institution for the rest of your life, if you’re lucky enough to avoid jail.

If you have to ask this question,

Its hospital time.

You are totally responsible for your actions.

My voices/intrusive thoughts tell me to drive recklessly/off a bridge to kill myself. I know at that point it’s time for me to go to the hospital. I struggled with this too. Not run over anyone but more to kill myself with my car. I know I shouldn’t be driving when that happens.

Responsible while psychotic?

Yes. You’re responsible for your own actions even when psychotic.

They tell me the same. To kill myself. To change lanes without caution. Etc.

Absolutely,

You are responsible even if psychotic.

If you know you are psychotic you should already know the answer to this question. It’s common sense.

I don’t plan on it. Just a question I had. If you are disconnected from reality, I think that’s an excuse.

Om even entertaining such questions is a red flag. This isn’t healthy.

They used to tell me to run over cones but do it discreetly and other weird stuff… When I was on the Wellbutrin God, driving drove me crazy. That was when my psychosis was worst.

It’s called the insanity defense. It’s very difficult to get the insanity defense, and if you do, you’ll be locked up in a mental institution much longer than your jail sentence would have been, and given forced injections for life because you are a danger to others.

So the psychotic person is not fully responsible. He is under the influence of psychosis
