I’m not sure of the process or cost, but I think I will go down that route.,… I’d love to be able to get a dog…
I didn’t know they did that.
I quickly Googled it and they exist here as well. Don’t know if you get any subsidies for them though.
Usually only for those lower on the ASD function scale. I have never seen someone high-functioning with one.
I can’t on my own as long as my partner is wiling to help I will wait until we can move…
there is this website https://dogsforautism.org.uk/ I’m not sure of the details but there are some people who recommend it. If I do not qualify, I’ll just get a dog and we will train
I prefer a hamster hehe. Will get one when I have my own place!
I’m going on an autism course next week! Really excited as its, free and fun
Just get a dog as a regular pet @anon25873142 if you wish but I don’t know if you need a certified support dog.
Like @shutterbug said, you are high functioning
Yeah dogs and cats can be healing and very supportive especially for the mentally ill but any dog or cat will do
Good luck
I have seen them used mostly for those who are non-verbal and prone to meltdowns when in stressful situations. The dogs provide a distraction and calming influence. In my own case, I keep several fidget toys stashed on my person to discretely play with when I need to stim from being overloaded.
I have a service dog for my sza, panic disorder, ptsd and cardiac condition. You can still be high functioning and have a service dog. I’m including a picture of my standard poodle service dog.
Service dog and not a support dog? I am okay with service dogs, but wish they would keep support animals out of public spaces as I am highly allergic to dogs.
Sometimes you sound like you want to be diagnosed with autism, @anon25873142.
I’m not saying it’s good or bad. Just don’t obsess over it so much. It won’t change who you are.
I don’t even know if I have it officially. But yeah I’ll probably just get a dog if I don’t meet the requirements.
No you’re not wrong. I was convinced I had bipolar look where that got me. I will leave it to the professionals
Yes she is a service dog not an emotional support animal
