Autism assistance dog

So my application got rejected… which is why I won’t be getting an assistance dog… but I will definitely be getting a dog at some stage… :grinning:

Why would you need an assistance dog for autism? To make eye contact for you???

Autism is a lot more complicated than not making eye contact.

An assistance dog can help during times of anxiety as well … I don’t think I thought through how else it would help though. So maybe it’s better I got rejected.

I’m aware of this, but I cannot think of an instance where I’d need a dog. I can justify ten cats, however.

I can’t. My partner is allergic. So no point of getting a cat to re-home it later. I couldn’t do that.

You can always re-home him.

I have an “emotional support dog”. She’s not a trained service dog so i can’t take her in public but i can have her in my apartment since i got a note from my pdoc. But I’ve trained her well and she’s made a huge difference in my life cuz she knows when I’m anxious and when I’m hallucinating and climbs onto my legs to apply pressure. She also will lick my feet when i dissociate. She’s just a mutt, a border collie/lab mix, but she’s a great dog.

I think you would also be able to train a dog to help you out, even if it’s not a “service dog”. It just takes some patience and time, but i think you’ll find one that works well for your autism and sz symptoms.
