Dogs for autism

There are charities out there providing dogs for autism but I can’t find where applications are open. I might be able to when we move get one because my mum won’t allow it under our roof !

That sounds great if you want a dog.

Are they specially trained dogs or something? I’m not understanding why you need a charity to get a dog. I have found them to be pretty easy to get ahold of.

I am diagnosed with Asperger’s, which I understand means I am now officially diagnosed with autism. I have never understood why it would require me to have a service animal.

Yeah they are trained but I need to do more research. Might end up getting one without going through this route cos applications are closed almost everywhere !

Who wants a boring old well trained dog anyway? Get a puppy who will destroy all your possessions and pee all over the place for the first few months. lol. Much more interesting.

Besides, this way you can train them to your own specifications.

I’m sort of kidding. If you don’t have the patience and/or don’t think you can handle it, don’t get a puppy.

I understand what you’re saying and I couldn’t get a dog if I’m the only one looking after it hence why I’m waiting to move
