I am now taking only 5 mg abilify for psychosis and was wondering if I do good (no relapse) on only 5 mg abilify does that mean I would also do well on other antipsychotics below the therapeutic recommended dosage for schizophrenia/psychosis?
Congratulation on doing well with 5mg abilify,if there is no irritating side effect then you can take it and continue to do well…give yourself sometime maybe you can go off medication, maybe,so that you no need to deal with the side effect
It really depends on what dosage works for you. As with respiridal it didn’t work for me so they had to keep upping my dose and it had no effect on me whatsoever but abilify worked at a low dose of 5mg. It was only recently they had to up to 7.5.
Not necessarily - this just means that Abilify agrees with you - this might not be the case with other antipsychotics.
If you are doing well on such a low dose of Abilify, why mess with a good thing?
Abilify is a relatively safe AP switching to another drug might not work out for you - some of these APs have some serious side effects.
You might be able to get off anti-psychotics. I did once for almost 5 years.
I was meds free for about the same amount of time. You just need to watch out for major changes in your day to day life. For example, when I went back to study again, I made myself really sick because of the stress. You just need to be on your guard if symptoms come back and deal with them as quickly as possible.
I am on Abilify as well now, I hope it works.
But anyway, good luck. I hope it continues to work for you
I am on 5mg dose too. I started four days ago. So far so good. It seems to be agreeing with me.
I’m on a 5mg dose now, so far so good too, but it hasn’t been even 2 weeks. It’ll take a few months before I’m a bit more confident that I’m getting away with being on a sub therapeutic dose. I just couldn’t tolerate 10mg. Tolerating 5mg and having it work seems too good to be true, so I’ll wait and see.
