i don’t think i can afford to stay on ssdi. i fear i will both be missing out on earnings, and also that prices will rise and it’ll be harder to live off my disability income. i mean, i like the idea, just don’t know where that will leave me. i want to get back to work anyhow so it would be the necessary nudge i need. thoughts?
Well if you decide to work, and get $15/hr that could be really helpful to you. Just make sure you’ll be able to get affordable health insurance
Yeah I’m on disability and worried about it too. I can’t go back to work because my mediation costs $1200 a month. If I get fired or laid off I lose my insurance. I expect everything is going to skyrocket in price including medication. It won’t happen right away.
If $15 an hour minimum wage becomes law economists are expecting it to take 2 years for inflation to catch up.
I have $12,000 in cash and I’m worried about the strength of the dollar. I’ve been studying the subject. I’m thinking about buying gold to hedge against inflation but I need to time it right.
In economics books it says wages typically double every 35 years. I remember when minimum wage was 5 dollars an hour now where I live it’s 11 dollars an hour and I’m 40 years old so I’ve seen it in my lifetime. That’s why we need some kind of rent control so slumlords don’t jack up the prices of apartments. The fear of a larger minimum wage is kids dropping out of school or kids choosing to not go to college because the wage becomes a livable one.
At 8.5% return on your investment in the stock market you’ll double your money in 10 years.
I’d guess minimum wage is somewhat of a reflection of the CPI. But idk…
Also I think federal minimum wage is like $7.25 per hour.
When I started working in 1996 the minimum wage was $5.15 / hr.
I agree with you 100% that when wages become more livable people are dis-Incentivized to further education. This is kind of a problem where I live I believe. People were used to making plenty of the money at the factory in town and now those jobs are gone; or don’t pay as much as they used to (CPI adjusted. )
Minimum is 16 where I’m at it’s not affordable here but I have free rent and I’m used to making more although right now I’ll take a 16 an hour job The market is really bad
why not work parttime and keep your ssdi. thats possible so you dont lose your medicaid. Actually in my state your can keep your medicaid and still keep a full time job.
