Ideas for sleeping aids

I want to replace my 25 mg of clozapine that I use for sleep with something else. I have an appointment next week with my psychiatrist, but she usually leaves it up to me to decide.

So I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions that I can make to her? I sleep 12 hours on the clozapine and want to find something that makes me fall asleep but not that long.

For me a very low dose of quetiapine (50mg) and also 4mg of melatonin (a natural hormone supplement) works very well.

Taking large doses like 10 mg isn’t good. Taking 2 or 3 mg an hour before bedtime will be enough.

Valerian, melatonin, passion flower, magnesium glycinate, P5P(vit B6) are some natural options.

Medication wise gabapentin has low risk when used as a sleep aid.

There’s an antidepressant called mirtazapin/remeron. It’s prescribed both as an antidepressant and as a sleeping pill. You can ask your doc about it.

You could ask for Seroquel or Trazadone

Effect of L-theanine on glutamatergic function in patients with schizophrenia - PubMed.

Conclusions: Our results suggest that L-theanine is effective in ameliorating positive symptoms and sleep quality in schizophrenia. The MRS findings suggest that L-theanine stabilises the glutamatergic concentration in the brain, which is a possible mechanism underlying the therapeutic effect.

I checked it on Amazon and it says that it’s a focus supplement. Is that right?

There’s research that if you take it with caffeine it can help you focus.

If you’re buying it, I suggest you get this one

Not all brands are good.

I use L-theanine in the powdered form and it knocks me out at night because it stops my night anxiety that keep me up. I stir the powder into my tea. About 1 gram
