Just came home from the pharmacy with a script for zyprexa. If you have any experience with this drug I would appreciate your input.
It was very good with me. I just gained too much weight lol.
But it kills the paranoia !!!
I’ve been on Zyprexa for 12 weeks now, and it’s been my miracle drug. My lowest effective dose is 7.5 mg and that is what I’m on now for the past month.
Zyprexa totally controls my positive symptoms. Prior to Zyprexa, I had disabling paranoia and delusions, and I was getting breakthrough voices even on 30 mg of Haldol. No breakthrough symptoms on Zyprexa. I have been calorie counting to avoid weight gain - in fact, I’ve lost 11 pounds so far. It also gives me insomnia, so I take it in the morning and I’m alert all day rather than being zombified on Haldol.
I am doing worlds better on it - I feel like a normie. I am in the process of registering to volunteer with a local hospice until I find a full-time accounting clerk job. I just bought a new-to-me car so I have my independence back and I can get myself around without waiting for my husband to get off from work. When I find a full-time job, I will be off disability that I’ve been on for the past four a half years.
I don’t feel like I’m being watched or followed anymore, so I can go out on my own. This is HUGE for me. I’m getting my life back, and it’s thanks to Zyprexa!
I hope it works for you as well as it does for me!
I’m currently taking zyprexa and so far not too many bad side effects. The one thing I hate about it is that it makes me so restless that I can’t get to sleep. I get up and walk around at night. I take Cogentin now and it helps with that. I also get a dry mouth in the morning. I will say you need to take it at night.
Someone i know loves it. I hated it. People are too different to say much.
Great drug but it will probably make you fat! Great drug though. Really great.
Makes you very hungry. I don’t remember it having as many side effects as risperidone, for me.
That was the first antipsychotic I tried. Didn’t do anything for me. Maybe I was just too sick at the time or it just doesn’t work for me or I wasn’t taking enough of it.
The PDoc switched me to Geodon pretty fast. Been on that ever since. But honestly I didn’t notice that that made me feel any better either until years later when I started taking the max dose.
But every body is different.
Good luck with it.
Worked great for me! Just had to take me off because of the weight gain!
Works great for sleep, delusions and anxiety. I take it about 2-3 hours before bed. I use it to combat PTSD too and it works better than benzos for that. Weight gain hasn’t been too bad for me though a lot of people complain about it. It will also sedate you so in my case I drink a few cups of coffee a day to have a more normal level of alertness.
I take this. My paranoia is under control for 4 years now. It makes me very hungry but im now in the process of losing the weight.
All in all it’s done zero for my voices where it counts. They still tell me to kill myself.
On Zyprexa for 7 yrs. Primarily a Dopamine blocker - paranoia. Extra sensitive to meds so couldn’t change more than 5mg of Zyprexa per day when going up or down.
On max dosage of 30mg, but was still too weak so had to add Latuda to help block Dopamine.
Side effects of Zyprexa alone: Muscle problems (Causes pain and muscles easily hurt when used at all); noticeably increases required nap in afternoon due to sedative; Noticeably increases constipation problems; Increases memory issues/failure. Of course different people suffer from different side effects.

besides its antipsychotic properties zyprexa has antidepressant effect in fact its the best antidepressant i have ever used
its vey effective against negative and positive symptoms of schizophrenia
Very good for psychosis but, I gained a LOT of weight on it really fast. Made me hungry all of the time. I was eating a candy bar every single hour. I would ask the pdoc for a different med. But, it doesn’t affect everybody the same way. My friend didn’t gain any weight on it so…
I have been on Zyprexa for a few years. I have been on different doses. For a while my doctor had me on about 40 mg a day then lowered it to 30 mg for about a year. I felt sedated most of the time. Then he reduced me to 20, then 10, then 5 mg a day. I felt good for a few days but started getting sick again. I was at 10 mg and started having symptoms and he wanted to raise it to 20, but I complained. I ended up in the hospital. After the hospitalization I got a new doctor and for two years he has kept me at 20 mg per day. I have felt sedated, but the doctor seems to think I need the 20 mg. I am not sure if the side-effects of Zyprexa are dose related.
Has it worked? Yes, but I have brief breakthrough of symptoms and feel like I might get psychotic again. It is not greatly effective for me. But it is very complicated to change medications.
I hope you have a good response to the drug.
Been on it for 12 years. 7.5mg. I tried to reduce the dose to 5mg a few times but it didn’t work. Sometimes if I’ve been drinking I need to take more than 7.5mg to help me get to sleep. I take the tablets at night. It must be working because I have been stable and had no bad episodes since starting it apart from when I’m very stressed. I hold down a job and have my own apartment. Sometimes I even think I might be happy. It does blunt your emotions though and I have not had a relationship since starting the medication.
Works really well for me. I have been on it well over a decade now and it’s good. I have maintained and lost weight on zyprexa. I gained mostly when i was on risperdal.
Keep exercise up but it is a good drug for some.
Works well. I was on 20mg a day,
Problem is it made me put on loads of weight and I was zombified.
Not a great review I know, but you need to know that it has the potential to do this.
Doesn’t bother everyone that said.
