I will start a weight loss drug next week. Semaglutide. I am also on clozapine and aripiprazole. What to expect? Are there any helpful tips or things I should know?
Best of luck with it.
Try to eat smaller lighter less carb heavy meals.
It’s easier on your stomach with this med
thank you @Wave for the tip. I am pretty nervous to start the med. I hope I will be able to live a normal life even if I’m on this med. I guess I will see when I start to take it…
It’s not a magic med. You still need to do regular exercise and clean up your diet or you won’t get the results you want. My wife was on it for a while and kept pounding cheese and crackers and sweets and was upset she wasn’t losing. Well, it slowed down her gaining because she ate less, but she was still going for high calorie meals and snacks that can blow your daily limit even with small portions.
Also, if you’re not exercising then your body will try to burn muscle for food instead of fat because it is easier for your body to go after stored muscle. You need to use your muscles so your body leaves them alone and uses your store of fat instead.
You’ll find that your BMs become more infrequent and solid. Add a good fibre supplement to your diet or start taking stool softeners. Trust me on this.
Meat becomes harder to digest because your digestion slows. I have gross “meat burps” for a day and a half after eating a portion of beef. I have cut down eating meat and tend toward protein shake smoothies with fruit added now.
Finally, if you’re ever tempted to take extra of the med (e.g. Saxenda, which is daily) - don’t. I double-dosed by accident once and the med switched off my digestive system for a couple of days. I could not even keep down sips of water and it was a wretched two days. Don’t put yourself through it.
Congrats on getting the med - hope it works well for you.
thank you so much for your reply! I will get a personalized gym workout routine from a PT soon - I am really excited for this! I know this med is no miracle med, I need to do the work - I need to be focused and motivated. thank you for tips, they really help me!
Great!
Good luck @nimeton
I can’t talk as I am 40 kg overweight myself. I cut down lots on fast foods and get healthy takeaways like sushi or Asian cuisine.I don’t eat chocolate bars or candy anymore. I still drink about two litres of water a day.
I have also made drastic changes with my eating habits and lifestyle. I hope this med will help me lose the weight. I do not expect it to do everything for me. But help me a bit. I need to drink more water, I have to pay attention to that.
Good luck with your weight loss journey!
I got dermatitis on it , hope the side effects dont happen on you
I have now taken 3 pills on 3 days, of the weight loss drug. I feel nausious and don’t want to eat much. Last night I threw up, but I do have a pretty strong throwing up reflex. It has saved my life many times, as I have had an alcohol poisoning or tried to OD on some pills.
I hope I won’t have the need to vomit anymore. It sucks. I woke up at 4am and felt really sick, had to run to the toilet and throw up.
So far this is the only side effect I have noticed.
Throwing up can be a sign that your body is rejecting the med and if you ignore it this can lead to complications or worst case death. Just be careful and tell your doctor
I Will keep an eye on this thing. If it continues I will inform my dr.
If you’re vomiting, stop the drug.
Yes. This is a very serious side-effect that could indicate your digestive tract has essentially been shut down. Stop the drug and seek medical attention immediately.
ok, I will call my doctor tomorrow. thank you everybody for help.
I was on it for about 10 months. I lost slot of weight. I went from 103kg to 86kg.
I stopped it start of this year and gained it all back. My meds give me an appetite that the weight loss drug counter-acted.
I would have stayed on it but can’t keep affording it.
I’m on Clozapine too and trying to lose weight . But I don’t want to take a weight loss drug. Hopefully I can control my weight with diet and exercise.
I feel increasingly worried about the blindness effect some are reporting. I’m going to ask if I can be put on metformin and also what I can do about physical activity. Like maybe if CBT/Therapy for fitness pursuits is available
