Huayin is the daughter of my sister’s best friend. last year she moved to my city for university education. My sisiter asked me to look after this young girl. So I take Huayin as my niece. Recently Huayin has been planned to move place. We offered help. Yesterday afternoon we came to her apartment to help her pack things up. We laboured by doing packing and delivering packages from the 4th floor to the van on the ground. It’s a lot of efforts as there is no lift in that building. We worked from 1pm to 6 pm.
Doing physical work occasionally is good for us. We felt tired yet pleasant afterwards. When we left Huayin gave me two bags of peanut candy. I did not expect this but was happy to receive them.
As I was tired yersterday afternoon, we went out for dinner. We invited Huayin to dinner for a good chat. So we hit this bar just near where Huayin’s place. This bar is decorated with Venice masks. Very impressive. We ordered 4 dishes and a liter of beer. The food is just so-so but the beer tastes very good.
Yes I understand how family and friends are like in China. Sometimes among family there is a lot more relying on each other. Glad you made a friend. It must have been a good time!
Yes, it has been a good time for me,you are right.
By the way, there is a big difference between southern Chinese and Northern Chinese in way of doing friendship and family. We southern Chinese are very individual with friendship and brotherhood or sisterhood. We don’t rely financially on our brothers or sisters. Maybe there are still a small fraction of population in Southern China who secretly practice family socialism or family communism. But I am sure this is out of fashion even in Northern China.
