I want your opinion on something. Maybe I'm being paranoid

A few weeks ago, I left a message on my doctors nurses answering machine about me quitting ozempic that day. I explained the situation with my symptoms, said it had been going on for like 5 weeks and said something like and then “I can’t be waking up every hour to get up and burp to relieve gas build up and belly pain” and said “I will talk to you about it in a week at our next appt.”

Maybe I sounded angry. I WAS irritated, because I always was fighting her on increasing that drug because it often made me ill. NOt to the extent I was ill recently, but ill nonetheless.

Anyway, the day of my appointment, early in the morning the nurse called me and cancelled my appt. Told me “Your not due for an appt for 2 weeks” and resheduled me for two weeks later. She seemed kind of like she had a nasty tone on the phone, but it could have been my imagination.

About 5 to 7 days later I get an automated thing phone call from the clinic telling me that I was past due an appointment with doc.

Now at this point, it seems to me that the nurse made up that my appointment wasn’t due.

So, now I’m wondering if either they are angry I decided I did not want to follow their advice, or maybe they didn’t like my tone in the message.

Also, they are the ones who scheduled the first appt, so HTF was it not due unless they screwed up.

Am I thinking too hard or does this seem like legit concerns?

I would just ask for a new appointment and explain things in person that you want off the ozempic as the side-effects were unbearable.

They rescheduled me for 2 weeks later. My appointment is this wednesday.

My concern is that I seem to have a provider lying to me. And they may not be providing the best care they can if they are not happy with me.

They already delayed my appt when it was due when I really needed to up a diabetes med somewhere to make up for Ozempic.

Edit: But yes, I will explain it in person.

Do you have any other options?

I’ve changed GPs and Pdocs before, but I live in a university town and there are plenty of doctors who stick around after their studies, so plenty of options.

If I were unhappy and had an alternative I would just switch.

There are other doctors in that clinic. I have only switched when docs have left in the past. I do not know what options are available. I guess I’ll have to look into it. Thank you for your thoughts and advice.

@Bowens

I would feel much the same if I were in your shoes.

While I do agree that some forms of paranoia can stem from overthinking, I do not think that you are feeling anything out of line in this situation.

And I think you had every right to feel a bit not like yourself or irritated when you were dealing with the awful Ozempic side effects. Don’t feel bad. They should understand that/be understanding.

But to be completely fair, would you consider going to your Wednesday appointment to explain every one of your concerns to see if you can get it straightened out?

Maybe jot down on paper everything you want to say.

And if you still don’t feel comfortable, I would very much suggest at that point that you start looking at different drs in your clinic as @Jonathan2 says.

Best wishes to you for sure! My husband took Ozempic for his diabetes and had the exact same bad experience you have had with it. Not good! I’m very sorry you had to go through this.

Your primary care dr doesnt seem very responsive when you contact them so you may want to change drs for that reason. Aside from whether you change primary care drs, you should request a referral to an endocrinologist to better manage your diabetes.
