does anyone have a journal they write in regularly? I’ve tried on multiple occasions to start one, but A) no motivation and B) I don’t know what to write!
so if you have any tips on how to keep up with it, or what you usually write, let me know
I keep a journal. I don’t write in it everyday, but several times a week. I like it because I can look back and see how I was feeling on a particular day. I use an online journal called Penzu.com. It’s free. If you are worried about security you can always do a paper one.
I tried to keep a journal for a few weeks a couple of years ago. My psychiatrist at the time told me it would be good to realize changes in mood, even if slight ones, and defy the mindset that “I’m always feeling down”.
With B) you can simply start your entry with “I don’t know what to write” and then write why you don’t know what to write, even if you end up starting all your entries for a while with that line! When it feels natural start describing what you remember you did during the day and what you felt about it I guess.
I was thinking of doing something with journal entries, like write a bunch down and pull one out and then that’s what I gotta write about. I think I might do that, and then also write about my day… hopefully I can keep the motivation up to do it every day. I’ll have to set a daily reminder or something
Journaling is a really good idea @eyeofRa, especially since you are about to start seeing a psychiatrist. It helps with appointments, you always have something to talk about.
Just start small, write down one thing you noticed about how you were feeling throughout the day. Eventually it will become a habit and you will start writing more.
It’s a good idea to keep track of your symptoms and side effects in a journal. If you trust your psychiatrist enough, you can just hand them the journal when you are in a session. I do that sometimes.
Oh! And buy a nice one so you will feel more motivated to use it.
i think its a good idea…its great for having small talk up ur sleeve…a diary can help ease social anxiety…it does for me!
