I Want More

I’m an example of someone who has been overlooked. How many millions of others are overlooked?
It’s like when I see political poll results and think “no one asked me, or anyone I know”, so the polls don’t represent me.
It’s the same with schizophrenia for me. No one’s asking me about my experiences. And my hallucinations started when I was a child. And psychosis and delusions started when I was 12-13, but all the information regarding sz says that the onset is much later for women? What about me?
The same criteria for participating in a political poll applies to being a contributor of information about sz, and it shouldn’t be that way. How many have fallen under the radar and are consequently unrepresented?
In the end, I really just wish more research was being done and more thorough information available.

I’m with you on a lot of things. Especially like the political poll metaphor

Adding to my frustration is the volume of Autism supprt/research groups with their bumper stickers, etc. I want that for people who suffer schizophrenia.
The face of schizophrenia currently ranges from old homeless guy arguing with a phantom to a young man with a semi-automatic… I want accurate representation. I want more research. I want compassionate treatment and acceptance…

That’s why I wanted Huckfinn to write the theme song. We don’t really have a message.

I agree, we need better representation on tv and in movies. most movies and tv shows has us as troubled people and if we are off our meds we tape box cutters to our hands and try to kill people (was on an episode of SVU). and we all are delusional and think we belong in mental hospitals or jail.

A silver ribbon is for Schizophrenia Awareness

Mental Health Awareness Week starts 10/5 (us & maybe Canada)
World Mental Health Awareness Day is 10/15

I’m not really sure what to do. I think I might try wearing a ribbon on the 15th and and see if there are any free functions in my area. I’ll let you know how it goes @Hedgehog. If you are interested.

SUpposedly SZ is #1 for research.

Maybe if they focused real hard on sz, they would inadvertently discover better treatments for other conditions, cuz they all require better understanding of neuroscience anyways. Maybe curing mi is all or nothing.

See, now I’ve heard that it’s purple for sz and that sz day is in May… ? Thank you, @MoeFaux for the information.

Hear hear! I think about this often as well, no real representation, no real understanding of the actual reality of sz as well. There’s a nice survey running around here at the forum, it’s a different approach to psychosis, let me find it for you.

I think Specifically Sz Day is in May but hey That’s May. There is stuff to check out next Month

Ribbons are confusing if you look into them. Colors are generally shared. Silver is Sz & Some other Brain Disorders in the US. Might be Green in Canada or that’s a general Mental Illness color there.
