I’ve gained a lot of weight back

I’ve gained 26 pounds since getting back on Depakote.
All I do is eat because I can’t control my enormous appetite!

I want to ask my psychiatrist for another med but I need to be on Depakote to function!

Honestly I don’t know what to do.

At this rate I’ll balloon to 300 pounds soon!

At one point off Depakote I weighed 184 pounds, today I weigh 210 pounds.

I rapidly gained about 26 pounds within a couple of months.

Something has to be done.

yeah i’ve put on 30 pounds in 9 months. if i eat like a normal person i gain weight, i figure i might as well eat. i lose a lot of weight on the OMAD diet but it wrecks my metabolism, i actually get hungry now eating 3 or 4 times a day. i am actually trying to put on at least another 30 pounds to get up to 195 pounds. my nurse told me once if i get over 200 pounds i will need a bigger needle when i get my injection. so i want to stay under 200 pounds.

I’ve gained a lot of weight. Used to be 96kg.now 69kg.
Want to get to 51kg.

So I’ve still got a long way to go.

It is very challenging

But we just have to find our own ways to get there.

Best of wishes.

195 pounds is overweight though.
Why not try to remain at a healthier weight range.

I’m sorry man. I’m on Loxapine, and I barely eat three meals a day yet I weighed in at 270 at the doctors the other day.

These goddamn meds are just terrible when it comes to weight.

Maybe buy a stationary bike you can ride while watching TV?

I recently ordered some new Skechers walking shoes in the hopes that it will motivate me to walk more.

Take care, @Wave .

i want to get big and muscular is all. i don’t want it to be all fat, it will probably take me 3 years at least to be muscular at that size. lots of training, o well that is what im shooting for, but im ok with my weight now also. but im still going to eat normal and be whatever weight that makes me. which is currently 163 pounds

I was a bit more than I wanted to be. I was 183 today at the doctors although I had stuff in my pockets. Still not where I’d like to be. I wish there was an easier way. Abilify is “weight neutral” but still makes you gain some weight. And Thorazine I’m not sure but I’m gaining a little on it too. I don’t watch what I eat but I don’t really overeat either. Maybe I should start watching what I eat. I also walk a lot but my cholesterol is high. Fortunately I was a bit under risk for pre/diabetes. It’s too hot to walk as much as I’d like to tho.

That is exactly what happnened to me on Olanzapine, plus it slowed my metabolism. Bad combination.

If you can find another med that would be great, that is the only thing that worked for me.I don’t really have any advice, the only thing that worked for me is to switch meds and get off olanzapine.

Edit: I know you said you need Depakote to function, I felt the same way about olanzapine, while it had horrible side effects it did control my psychosis, I’ve tried other AP’s and they didn’t work, but then I tried Lurasidone and it works even better without side effects. I was scared to try different meds but it actually turned out really well. I’m not familiar with your situation or what meds you have tried but perhaps there is a med other than Depakote that could help you function without the side effects. Unfortunately there is no way to know other than try, trial and error.

The only thing that worked for me was reducing my dose.

But yea we all have unique strategies so Dont go with my strategy @Wave

Unless it’s all approved and u feel it is the right thing which idk myself

Yes I won’t be able to lose enough weight while I’m still on Depakote.

I’m going to discuss a different option.

But I know that she will be against any kind of med change.

Thanks everyone.

I feel your pain. I’ve been on Abilify for years, and some days I’m so hungry I could eat my own arm off! My doctor says it’s one of the better ones…that it doesn’t cause as much weight gain, but many of the reviews say it increased people’s appetites. I ended up with diabetes type 2 (at 235 lbs), and am now taking Jardiance and Ozempic to manage that. I’ve since lost 30 lbs (I’m 205 lbs), but the hunger is always there. My doctor is also against me cutting back on the Abilify, but I’d rather be a bit crazy and weigh less, than to be more “sane” but with diabetes complications. I can’t seem to get him to agree. :frowning:

I gained like that back when I was on Seroquel. It was so awful.

I’ve tried all of the major mood stabilizers and Depakote is the only mood stabilizer that really works.
I really don’t know what to do.

I’m going to have to try my hardest to eat healthier and eat less.

It’s going to be a Herculean task but it’s got to be done.

I don’t want my diabetes to get worse!

I don’t want to suffer a massive heart attack or stroke!

I completely understand. I’m so sorry. Try drinking carbonated water. The carbonation helps me feel full

Coffee helps me feel full too.

I guess a little.
Most of my food cravings come on during the evening.

During the day I might be able to manage my cravings some.

For dinner, can you have a high protein meal? Sometimes that helps people feel full

My problem is I’ve been eating lots of carbs like bread.
The more carbs you eat, the hungrier you get.

I’m going to have to get back to my low carb diet again.

Yes consuming more protein foods is also what I need.

Thanks @Zannah
