Cab drivers: because long ago I used them and I would swear they ran up the tab by taking the long ways to get somewhere.
Mechanics: because I felt they did more work on my car than it really needed. And charged unfairly.
But my car was in the shop several days ago and I had to take a cab to and from work. It was the first time in a year but things have changed. NOW they have a GPS system that I can see plainly so I can see the most direct route with my own eyes. They have a portable computer that tallies the bill instead of the driver and takes credit cards and debit cards.
And now I found a good mechanic. My sister took her car to his shop and she recommended him to me. There’s a few things about him and his shop that I really like and he does things I’ve never had another shop do for me.
For one thing, when I bring my car in for a big repair he will either have a mechanic that works for him give me a ride home while he works on my car and bring my car to my home when it’s fixed. Sometimes he gives me a “loaner” car to use as I please for an entire day. One thing he has done a lot is do easy repairs for free. Replacing light bulbs, checking all my fluids, taking minor dents out, cleaning my car. But the other day he gave me an estimate of $500.00 when my water pump and a crucial belt both broke. He fixed it in one day. When it came time to pay he showed me the bill. $460.00. for parts and labor.
But when I handed him my credit card he crossed out $460.00 and wrote $350.00!! I’ve been going to him for 7 years and I have never felt cheated or suspicious. If you ever find a good mechanic hold on to him. Car repairs are inevitable and dealers charge top dollars for parts and labor. Too many others are not top notch.
