This is confusing to me too. If it was me, I’d at least have a mechanic look at it just to make sure the car doesn’t do that again.
But…what the tow truck driver did is really odd to me. Cause even if your car runs fine, doesn’t always mean later on down the line it’ll be fine. The way I look at it, maybe the tower thought it didn’t need to be looked at and wanted to save you money. But still, if it breaks down on the road, I dunno if I’d be driving that a lot. I say drive to the nearest shop to you, and have it at least looked at. If the mechanic doesn’t see anything wrong with it, then maybe it was a “freak accident” kind of deal?
And, don’t get me wrong, I’m sure everyone wants to hear “Oh I’m just saving you money.” Believe me, if I can get a deal on things, right on! But, when it comes to cars, I dunno…cars can be very unpredictable, especially if you don’t get it looked at for a certain period of time.
Like, don’t get me wrong, I think he was just trying to be nice, which is awesome! We need more nice people in this world. But, honestly, especially since it’s a car, just have it looked at. You don’t have to pay for anything right now, just tell a mechanic what happened and tell him “Can you just look at it for now and see if there’s anything wrong with it, and if there is, call me afterwards and let me know what the damages are and how much it’ll cost?” And the mechanic should be able to tell you if something needs to be repaired soon, if anything.
I’m just saying, when it comes to cars, you just never know. I just recently got in my car one day coming back from the gym and it broke down on the main road to my house. My check engine light came on, along with a bunch of other things gone wrong. Turns out one of my gaskets exploded. I had plenty of money to spend on getting it fixed, even if it was something worse than a gasket. But yeah man, cars can be unpredictable. Better to get a second opinion from someone who repairs cars for a living than just listening to a tow trucker that may not know what it is he’s talking about.
I’m not saying you’re soft but the tow truck driver had a little power because he has some knowledge about cars and he used that power to convince you. All it was, was that you trusted his opinion when maybe you should have been more firm. A lot of people in that position you were in would have done the same thing you did.
In my “past life” I was overly confrontational and aggressive and I think I’ve toned it down too much. I didn’t want to contradict him even though i knew he was wrong. PTSD maybe.
