And it said I have many symptoms and should talk to a specialist. I’ve always struggled socially and have quirks. I do have friends, but my friends also have issues and quirks so we understand each other. But I do empathize with others so I don’t have that symptom. I’ve always wondered if I have it. I told my husband and he said he has always wondered the same thing about me. Very interesting.

You’ve done a lot of therapy. Did any of your therapists brought it up?

Asperger’s isn’t a diagnosis anymore, it’s autism spectrum disorder.
The online tests may be a good starting point but also remember many things overlap.
But also that’s how I started my autism diagnosis journey, took tests, talked to friends, and found out most of my friends were autistic too. We tend to flock together

No. They didn’t. But they didn’t work with me on my issues regarding being sensitive, hyper focused on certain subjects, social issues… they’ve dealt with my trauma from the past and my schizophrenia

Is there anything that can be done if you’re diagnosed as an adult? I mean I don’t need to know really unless I can get help dealing with issues.

I know there is some overlap between sz and asd so it will probably take a specialist looking at your youth to discern the 2.

The only help it’s gotten me is I qualified for vocational rehab and they paid for my college classes while I was in it. And it helped me get disability. Other than that it’s mostly just about self knowledge and awareness of issues, as with any diagnosis. Being able to understand more deeply why I have so many social issues helped me, I mainly got diagnosed because I wanted to know myself

I pretty much self diagnosed a couple years ago and started attending a monthly support group for fellow “Aspies.”
I made some nice friends there although the women should really have their own group because I think some of the guys seem a bit misogynist and some can be a bit scary. Some are definitely more autistic than others and a lot of them have at least part time jobs.

The community has a massive incel problem. Challenging to explain the issue to a male with profound social impairments who has a functioning libido with no means to satisfy it.

Yeah it’s on a bell curve… a very few are prettily happily married on one end and the other end has never even gone on a date

I was referred to charities, but their wait lists we a few years to even get an introduction
Went on Wrong Planet for a bit, but did not like the website how it operated
I had 1 proper date. But I did not realise it was a date… Shut it down very quickly after as I got spooked
Not an incel, not anything like that
Nowadays I am pretty much asexual.
Did want a relationship before but I have been alone for so long now, it would be a struggle to conform to having someone else around me permanently.
