Long unaddressed issue.
Prominent symptoms until today include narrow interest (religion and computer only) and social avoidance.
There is nothing I can tell to my doctor.

When I finally wanted to get to the bottom of what was going on with me (just four years ago) I wondered if I had Aspergers. There’s a lengthy test for that, and interviews with family members, etc. The psychologist felt that aside from “symptoms”, I was too self-aware to qualify for an autism diagnosis. Then I moved and couldn’t do follow-up so that’s as far as that went. I would encourage you to pursue any and all ideas you have about yourself. When I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, it was empowering because I had been suffering blindly and alone for so long. Anyway, I would encourage you to find out everything about yourself. This is your life and your mind.
Hedgehog, good to know your past experience to almost qualify for an autism diagnosis. I will find out everything about myself. It would make quite a huge difference from schizophrenia to autism.
My nephew has Augsburg’s.
He is very smart. But only about a few things. It’s OK, he’s still a great guy and lovable. I tried to get books about it for my sister but they don’t know how to help him grow up or learn independence.
So even if you have it Plumber, it really doesn’t change anything. You have lived this far so you have been dealing with a lot of stuff already.
Your advice taken, katwomansz. Those young autistic children are really in need of help.
I’ve worked with kids with Autism for many many years. I encourage those who are high-functioning to not define themselves by the Autism. It’s part of who they are, but not everything. Each is an individual. And my motto for all of my kids, no matter what the disability, is “what you can do, you must do”. It sounds like you have a good handle on life. But, I know that getting the right diagnosis is important. I wish you the best!
Narrow interests- basically revolves round the internet(forums, genealogy with a sprinkling of politics) . Social avoidance- very little social interaction.
Not pressing the aspergers etc issue off my own back as in the past seeking help resulted in abusive treatment .
Firemonkey, look like we have similarities. I am sorry to hear the abusive treatment you have got. Will it really change anything by having an autism diagnosis?
If you had asked me that 20-30 years ago I would have said yes. Now too much water has gone under the bridge and too much damage has been done. I think it’s more a case of wanting all my problems acknowledged than thinking any good can occur at this late stage.
Thank you for the answer, Firemonkey. I think I read somewhere that you have hoped for social skills therapy but it did not happen. It is very sad to know that. The way you convey your messages is straightforward but honest. By the way, you look like my former general manager.
I have aspergers syndrome. My narrow interests right now include medicines
One of my narrow interests is finding articles to post via my rss feeds, mainly mental health or politics related.
Is it all medicines or just psychiatric medicines you are focused on ?
Yes, that is right. Unfortunately social skills help is not high on the agenda here in the UK if you are seen as just mentally ill and not on the autism spectrum . It is very much different in the States where social skills deficits are taken far more seriously.
Most of the research on social skills and severe mental illness comes from the States.
It’s really something that needs to be done as early as possible in the illness process with, to my mind, diminishing effects the longer it takes to be implemented. What could have been achieved for me in my 20s is far greater than what could be achieved for me at nearly 60.
Psychiatric medicines
I notice in your earlier post you said " right now". Does that mean your interests have changed over time ?
Yep. I learned spanish used to be obsessed with pokemon, ron paul different
