I had a mental status exam with a psychologist today for SSI and he told me I have autism. He said he couldnt believe i went so long without being diagnosed (it was suspected when i was a child but never made official). He told me to read some books on autism to better understand myself. I’m still diagnosed with sz as well.
I hope reading about it helps you.
Yes, get informed on Autism
It will help
Welcome to the club, lol. Seems to be more and more of us wielding the dual axis lately
He said sometimes autism can sorta lead to schizophrenia cause u can’t detect peoples motives so it makes u very paranoid. I thought that was interesting.
That makes sense, to a point. It also makes sense, to a point, that the difference between overloaded sensory input and hallucinations can be a blurry one. I had auditory hallucinations removed from my diagnostic list when I described my symptoms to a doctor who realized I have communication issues, and was just describing tinnitus with different words than most people would use.
Do you mind if I ask if you’re in your 30s 40s sorry you don’t have to answer. I’m being considered for an assessment I’m 38
I’m 35. 1515151515
Thank you. Did they do an ados test ? I think that’s what it’s called. I hope I don’t have to wait 2 more years
I dont know. He read through a long form where my mom answered questions about me. He observed me. Talked to me. Asked a lot of questions. Did a mental status exam thing. And then said i have autism.
I won’t be surprised if when I go see a new pdoc (currently, just doing maintenance with my GP but I want reevaluation of my meds), they slap an autism diagnosis on me (eventually even), lol. A LOT of people seem to suggest I have it, including many who have the diagnosis themselves. Possibly one of the many AFABs who got overlooked.
Ive been asked a few times if i have autism. I used to beleive i was on the spectrum. But not sure these days. Could just be the negative symptoms of schizophrenia. Like not liking eye contact and flat affeft and finding socialising really hard.
There’s some symptom overlap. I don’t have problems with social cues, etc.
Is there some kind of assesment with a pdoc to get diagnosed? Or do they just talk to you for a bit and can tell from that? How do they know exactly?
