where do they come from? we don’t have any high grass. I saw 5 last summer, and 6 the year before. I don’t know maybe they are feeding on mice. I wouldn’t think they would be in a good environment to survive. I want to get rid of them if I can figure out where they come from. we have mice under the house and they go after the tree frogs I think. im going to be cutting down some trees this spring, maybe that will help.
I tend to see them from july to October. for whatever reason they end up on my walking path and go down into the creek from there. they swim too.
I don’t think so. I think they are black garden snakes. the only poisonous snakes we have in Indiana that are native to the area are copperheads and water moccasins.
we saw one last year about 6 ft and it wasn’t afraid of us. even snapped at my dad when he provoked it with a stick.
Yeah it’s a tough situation. In one sense they are good for rodent control but if they scare you and they are bold I can see why you are uncomfortable.
Could you put like metal gauze round the bottom of your house? Kinda like s net stoppingvthem getting in?
Sorry if this is a stupi suggestion - snakes aren’t a problem where I live
yeah im going to look into doing something. not sure, we’ve got them coming up from under the house once. mom killed one, one night when she was grilling on the back porch. it was under the porch. I’ve also seen them take refuge in the barn. there is one hole I will patch this spring.
It probably means that you have rodents in your house, and the snakes came inside to eat them. Maybe it was cold outside and they came in seeking warmth. Maybe there was a heavy rain that washed them out of their burrow, and sent them scurrying for shelter.
Or it could mean any number of things I haven’t thought of.
yeah we had a mouse problem. we caught like 10 of them in traps. haven’t gotten one in a few months. hopefully they are gone. or it might just be they are inactive in the winter. also we have moles in the yard. you don’t think they would be after the moles do you?
