No one is an expert. I’d rather have their support then some quack that just pushes pills like they are candy
If you dont want to talk about it, i respect that. I have quite a lot of experience with quitting meds in an impulsive way, so i was just a little worried about you. Take care!
How was your diagnosis before you went on meds?
I have had so many different ones that i really dont know which one to give you. Broadly: first ptsd/anxiety, then sz, now they are re-evaluating if that is still the right diagnosis. Because im more okay ever since i stopped quitting meds cold turkey.
Oh, thanks 1515151
@anon98459728 I think you are right to give it a little time. Life has a way of throwing us a hanging curve ball. Doctors are rich I admit but they believe in the Hippocratic oath to become doctors. I’ve never met a money hungry charlatan who didn’t care. Its big pharma we have to worry about though. My meds work good enough and the one i’m on now it has been 18 years. I think my mind works fine for the most part except for aging. It is the disease not meds or crazy doctors @Winterblues
You say you don’t want to talk about but I have to say just as warning, you will run into people occsionally who just have a superficial knowledge of schizophrenia and medication and they think they know what’s best for you.
I see your position that they are people you know and trust and you are going to be around them a lot…But psychiatrists go to school for years and study mental illness and everything related to it. And then their career is spent seeing so many mentally ill people and psychiatrists learn as they go and rack up years of experience of seeing what works and what doesn’t.
I’m not putting anyone down but I think I would trust the guy who went through medical school for 10 years and has been seeing mentally ill people for years. Granted, medication isn’t for everybody, some cope without it. But the facts are that the majority of schizophrenic people can benefit from taking medication. The discovery of medications that could help mentally ill people is one of the biggest discoveries in the history of psychiatry It’s what got institutionallized mentally ill people out of the back wards of hospitals because they were deemed “hopeless” before medication came along. In this day and age we take medication for granted but a lot of people on these boards including myself would be in insane asylums for life if there was no medication.
I’m just giving advice, I’ve never had a problem with you.
@Winterblues Pride cometh before the fall…
Thanks sir, they don’t understand mental illness like I thought I did but I guess I don’t understand it either. They gave me a whole other perspective
What does that mean? I was never good at old English
It means, that you should take a step back and look at your situation a little more carefully, before you come to such a drastic choice.
Throwing your meds away is a bad idea.
Maybe you can do well without meds, but let your doctor take you off of them, not your family and friends
There’s no shame going to the doctor and saying you want to try to stop medications.
You’d be surprised how many doctors are willing to do something like that
Just tread lightly and don’t screw yourself.
Because even if a cure came out, I don’t think it’d work on me
10 years is a looong time to be sick! I’m so sorry you went through that! I hope you don’t experience it again!
Ok I get it, I just took my Depakote. My boyfriend just said I’m hypnotized by the doctors, I understand how far I came. I’m not freezing up by going catatonic and I have no visual hallucinations. I don’t know if my doc would stop some meds, she just prescribed me 2 new ones
Sure, a different perspective is great. People have different perspectives about many things. But just consider your actions carefully and don’t jump into disposing your meds just because someone makes a good argument that sounds good at the time.
Be smart about this, make your decisions wisely and carefully. Going off of meds can be a huge life-changing decision. Make an informed decision using knowledge and evidence from other people and yourself.
Thanks Nick, I feel like I came a long way and it is just their “long talk” and perspective just bc they are used to the manic me. They said “your 26 you should have more energy” when it was 2am. I’m seeing the logic now. I stayed up til 5am last night. NOT ABOUT THAT PARTY LIFE, BRO
I would not stop taking your aps. As for the benzos, can you not tell they are working because the effect is short term?
Going off meds should be done gradually with the help of your pdoc , and with people able to monitor and intervene if you go off the rails .
I’m not going off them. No, when I took the benzos 2 days ago in the middle of the day it felt like it did nothing for voices and panic. But I take it every day and it organizes my thoughts. I’ve been on it since 2014.
i dun think i would be able to quit my meds , my situation r very bad and very detriorating and i have not taking my meds for 4 months and it is like hell i can say, no better word can describe it , i am always in catanoic state or paranoia , delusional , have been judging my appearance, others appearance , looking at others if they know wt i am thinking /i can know what they r thinking about, always suspicious , i cannot live a normal life , and it is sad to know that i cannot live a normal life without the medication
