I went off of my meds 5 times, and 5 times I crashed. I’m resigned to the fact that I’m a ‘lifer’ on medication.

I take 15 mg of Abilify right now and it seems to be doing the trick. A few minor side effects, but over all I’m on a very good run these days.

With me sick, my family unhappy with me, and my reputation damaged. Every time. I am envious of those who function perfectly without meds. I, sadly, am not one of them.

I lasted three whole days and was crying to put me back on. I’m a lifer too, smarter that way.

The withdrawal was god awful. I have been ‘drying out’ and on to the next med for over a year now.

I go through a pretty predictable cycle every couple years of being so sure I know I need to be on meds for life, then deciding that I probably don’t even have sz so I don’t really need meds, going off (or dramatically decreasing) meds, seriously regretting it after being hospitalized yet again, and starting meds again with the knowledge that I need to be on meds for life. Repeat.

So looks like most people try without meds. Im not surprised. You gotta try to find out the truth.

Went off meds, crashed and burned. Now back on meds for life.

It’s good to see this summarized in a poll form.

I’ve gone off meds both because I didn’t want to to take them and my pdocs wouldn’t get a hold of me.

I’ve quit a few times in my past… then crash and burn.

I’ve always ended up back in hospital… I’m a lifer too.

I quit meds twice and each time ended up back in hospital. So I decided to take meds for the rest of my life.

I tried once. Failed hard.

now I am off med…it’s been more then 7days…don’t know how its ends…

Not really ,I used to take them once in a blue moon , then every day but a next to nothing dose , then I started switching meds until I could take more (depression if I went over a certain dose) , then when I could tolerate more meds , I started increasing my dose , until I got sufficent relief from my symptoms , so thats, my story…

I have a system of taking meds, for each med time, evening, morning and afternoon I have a glass to which I put my meds and then take these meds at specific times, it has become a routine and I never forget to take my meds.

I have tried to quit a few times, either cold turkey or reduction. Never by consulting doctors first, because they always advice against it. It never ends well, I always get admitted. I have decided to take my meds for the rest of my life, I’m on 20 mg Olanzapine.
