Fingers crossed i can get off medication tmrw

I’m going to ask the nurse. Not sure it a nurse can take you off medication. I’ve been stable a year and 40 mg is working fine for me.

Good luck! I recently tried and only lasted 3 days.

:head_bandage:

do you mean switching to a different medication or trying to take a break from any medication?

Take a break from medication for awhile so I can have my labido and metabolism back for while at least i can survive til next year when lumateperone comes out

i have heard that when going off medication the docs want to do it a little at a time not all at once , tapering it down 5 mgs a week . some meds you can stop taking all at once no problem others you need to reduce them a little at a time so your body doesnt go into shock or psychosis just because of the sudden change .

a lot of people when they stop meds just stop taking them all at once dooming their efforts to failure because many anti psych meds you cant stop all at once safely but have to do it gradually . and i really dont think a nurse would have the authority to change meds but i could be wrong about that

Don’t stop taking your meds. Psychosis can strike at any time, it won’t wait for your schedule. You could end up thinking you can fly and jump off a building.

you could jump off a building or you could be successful life is full of unknowns but you shouldnt stop taking meds all at once ever if do do want to try doing it . there have been people who have been successful at doing it this article has some personal stories of people who have been diagonosed with sz and live without meds successfully and a lot of good resources if you decide you want to do this

Nope. There’s always a new batch of recruits who go off meds for a while. I was off them for 2 years myself. Then I was hospitalised with psychosis.

There isn’t a problem finding people off meds, but it always ends in disaster, and you never end up hearing about that, as it’s not good press for the anti-psychiatry people. Mad in America is just an anti-psychiatry blog.

The anti-psychiatry lobby continually needs new recruits, as the current batch either die or go back on meds.

I kinda trust my ability to tell whether or not im starting to get crazy or not. Between me and the doctor one us should be able to tell if I’m about to have psychosis or not

And then what? Antipsychotics can take up to a month to stabilise you, by which time it’ll be too late. So, if you’re lucky you’ll end up psychotic in hospital.

Or I can sit around fat lazy and sexless on meds. The meds are what causes lack of motivation. I’m lazy as ■■■■ and dont have much of a life right now. This weight has to come off I’ve gained 90 lbs. I hate excersize especially on these meds and have no motivation to do it anyway. I’m on 40 mg right now which is barely a therapeutic dose. Life is so much more enjoyable off meds that on.

are you just on one medication now?

Life is so much more enjoyable off meds that on

So why are you on them in the first place? No seriously, I’m curious. If your life was so dandy off meds, then why did you go on them in the first place?

Im on Latuda 40mg plus cogentin and ativan for the side effects of akathisia and buproprion for lack of motivaton

I went almost 5 months off meds and I could smile and be happy and had dopamine for motivation. I think the only reason I had psychosis was because i was drinking alchohol

I think the only reason I had psychosis was because i was drinking alchohol I have schizophrenia and therefore need meds.

There. Fixed it for you. Don’t be stupid. You don’t strike me as being stupid, you strike me as being intelligent in fact. Don’t make a big mistake.

I hate my meds too, if it’s any consolation.

I’m only going to go off if they let me. Shouldn’t I trust their professional opinion. Especially with tarditive dyskinesia and brain damage As side effects. I think i only have mild schizophrenia

its good your just taking the 1 medication and thats true you could be misdiagnosed .

diagnosis is usually done carelessly based entirely on symptoms without any physical testing done before a diagnosis is made to rule out any other physical disorder that could be causing symptoms , and drug and alcohol use especially mixing drugs and alcohol something that is commonly done in our culture .

how many tests were done on you to rule out anything else before your diagnosis or was the diagnosis just assumed based on your symptoms like most people ? and even if you actually do have sz and havent been misdiagnosed doing mean to cannot manage it without meds - long term not just short term .

here is an article from this website about conditions that have symptoms that mimic sz but is anyone being tested for them - nope ! http://schizophrenia.com/family/misdiag.html

its ok to question the label and question the medication for life program both its your life and your the one who has to live it not them

antipsychotics are now the largest grossing class of drugs in the United States, grossing $16 billion in 2010

Wish I could come off meds but within a couple of days I am wired to the moon.

In fact I don’t think I want to come off meds. For me it is like turning off the headlights of a car to save the battery and as a result not being able to see where I am going.

and even if you actually do have sz and havent been misdiagnosed doing mean to cannot manage it without meds - long term not just short term .

That’s simply wishful thinking.

I get the impression you don’t have schizophrenia yourself. If that’s true, then can you please stop advising vulnerable people who actually have the disease to stop taking their meds.

Also, if you don’t have schizophrenia, you need to go here: http://family.schizophrenia.com . This part of the website is for people with mental illness. The family part is for those without.
