I stopped taking all my meds

I’m going to give it maybe a week, then try taking the Risperidone again. Maybe before then depending on how it goes. I just want to enjoy the no congestion, stiff muscles, dryness, or craving food especially regular sodas with the sugar.

Please, please, please tell your doctor about this.

I was off my meds for about four days recently (not voluntarily) and I experienced the most awful dissociation. If I’d gone any longer without my meds, I know things could have gotten so much worse.

Meds aren’t anything to mess around with.

If you abruptly quit all meds,
you may have rebound psychosis

The thing about stopping meds for some people is that, yes, you may not relapse for 6 months if you are lucky. But the thing is a relapse may change your whole life negatively as another poster said.

I got put on meds when I was 21 when I was in the hospital. I got out and moved into a nice group home and I became stable for few years. By age 25 I was still stable but I got addicted to crack and and I was facing a lot of changes and stress. By 28 years old I started to relapse.

I was still on meds. But I ended up in the hospital several times and my mental health was terrible and I was in daily agony. It was just horrible all over again. It took me 6 months or so to get stable and functioning back again to where I was before I relapsed.

And that is my whole point. If you go off meds and relapse it may take you awhile to recover. It’s possible that the scenario will be that after 3-6 months you notice your slipping and you get back on meds and in a couple of weeks or a month you are fine. But it’s also possible that if you relapse that your psychosis is so bad that it takes months to recover. And while you are going through a nasty relapse that could have been avoided and possibly being hospitalized, life goes on and other people are living their lives every day and growing and learning and having fun while in the meantime, your whole life is dominated by a relapse and all that goes with it.

I’m sorry, but that’s not good enough. You need to go back on all of your meds, at least until you can discuss it with the doctors who prescribed them. You are not a doctor, so quit acting like you know what you’re doing before you end up dead.

And you seem to be acting like having your symptoms return isn’t a big deal. Well, it is. What if your first symptom is a full blown delusion that you have no insight into? And say you relapse and they put you back on meds in the hospital. What happens if they can’t stabilize you? There are people in mental hospitals right now who are going to be there for the rest of their lives because they had a psychotic break and nothing could bring them back. Their lives are over. They’re gone. Why even chance it over some goddámn nasal congestion and cravings? Like, dude, that’s asinine. How about just don’t but the sodas? You can’t drink them if they’re not there. Can’t do that? Just but one serving at a time so if you want another, you’ll have to go back out for it. Go see a doctor about the congestion. It’s not worth quitting your meds over. And honestly, if this seriously makes even the slightest bit of sense to you, then you’re probably not as stable as you think you are. Just go back on the meds for now.

Carefully reducing meds will almost definitely result in less suffering than suddenly stopping and starting. If you reduce them gradually you may find an acceptable dose and never have to go back up at all.

You obviously have high blood sugar. Based on taking the glucose control pills. Abruptly stopping them can cause high blood sugar and the shock that can come with that. You could end up in a diabetic coma. Please take your meds. At the very least the risperdone and glucotrol.

Okay. I just took my Risperidone. I’m getting a little paranoid. My blood sugar A1C has never been above 6.7. That’s what it was when I was diagnosed with diabetes and unmedicated. The goal is for it to be under 7.0. I don’t take insulin. I’m going to hold off the Glucotrol for several days so I can see what side effects of the Risperidone I have.

Between you and me, Mike, I have desires to throw away my meds, too.

I can only speak for myself, but all I can say is God must love a fool like me, because there were times when I was off my med’s that I was right on the verge of catastrophe.

High blood sugar can lead to acidosis in diabetes. It’s very dangerous. It can even lead to death.

Good luck. You’ll definitely need it.

I was off medication for about 2 years per doctor’s approval. I would still see him during that time to touch base and assess. Wouldn’t ya know it - it all came roaring back.

You don’t need to hold off on anything. You need to take your goddámn medication. Seriously, you’ve got to know this is a stupid idea. At least tell me that you can see that.
