I regret getting a sleep test and getting this cpap

I had a test and apparently I have mild sleep apnea. The doc asked me if I wanted to try a cpap. I have only been able to sleep for a couple hours or so at time for awhile and hoped this might solve it, so I said “yes”. Big mistake on my part.

Now I’ve got the company that gave me the device calling me like every other day asking me if I’m using it. Yesterday, they told me there is a deadline for getting it read by a doc of june 24th.

I cant sleep for crap with this thing. But I feel like I’m being forced to wear it by this company and insurance now. When the company calls they actually call themselves “The compliance department”. It’s like ‘YOu will comply!’

I was just going to tell them to stop harrassing me and I’ll return the device, next time they call, but my dad chimed in that they might cancel insurance if I dont comply with my doctor. I find this hard to believe. I dont think they are going to cancel medicare over my inability to wear a cpap.

The requirements are 4 hours a night minimum. Otherwise, I think, insurance will not cover it. Last night I wore it for about 2 hours and I feel all dazed today. I cannot wake up and feel like I’m in a fog. I dont know if its related to the cpap for sure.

Anyway, forcing 4 hours a night for months just sounds horrible. I never should have agreed to try it in the first place.

So they want to cancel your insurance cuz you won’t wear this device. That’s crazy

I personally dont think they will. My dad just chimed in with that because he thinks if I dont comply with my doctors wishes they could.

But…they are heavily pressuring me to wear it so that insurance will pay for it.

So if you don’t comply, they’re going to leave you with the bag.

I guess. I wish I could just return it and call what I’ve already paid a wash. The first month was 100 dollars or so and insurance is supposed to cover most of it after that. But in order for that to happen, I have to wear it at least 4 hours a night.

See this crap is so advanced it has wifi. I think it sends the info to insurance and also Im supposed to take in for doctor to read the data.

A few years ago, I dont think this monitoring would have applied.

Maybe if you pay them

yeah, thats possible. Maybe I will just end up having to pay for it myself. I have no idea how much the unit costs altogether though. I know I paid around 100 the first month and then insurance was supposed to make it like 10 every month after. But I have no idea what the total would be without insurance.

You could try putting it on Maggie

I have severe sleep apnea and have tried wearing a cpap machine several times but always end up ripping it off of my face halfway through the night(sometimes unconsciously). Just talk to your doctor about taking you off of it. If anything you will have to pay for the device and that’s it(I would hope) but you should just be able to return the device for a minimum price. Many people can’t wear them because they are intrusive to sleep.

In regards to sleep apnea, there are many alternatives to cpap’s like nasal strips, mouth tape to keep you from breathing out of your mouth etc. If you’re eating before you go to bed you should stop because it puts pressure on your diaphragm which makes it harder to breathe while sleeping. Try sleeping at an incline as well as that will take the pressure off of your throat. Also not smoking and losing weight are great helps to sleep apnea.

I can’t do much other than sleeping at an incline because I have a deviated septum which keeps me from breathing through my nose when I sleep.

Thank your thoughts and advice.

Is that legal. I don’t think they can legally force treatment of anything.

@Bowens I highly doubt that they’ll cancel your insurance if you choose not to comply

I’m pretty sure that’s illegal

Yes, I doubt it as well. But thats what dad chimed in with, so it made me hesitant.
