Hello All, I hope you are well. I need to give a presentation on Wednesday for practitioners in our healthcare sysytwm here in the UK. I am interested in learning about your experiences with therapy and why we this helped. In essence, I would like to know whether CBT worked for you?
I had lots of therapy it did help and it helps a lot of people but it cannot make miracles and it cannot save lives
CBT was my magic bullet.
It helped me some sort of that way. The therapist helped me out of my confusion as much as he could.
Thank you, thank you all.
I was trying to do a poll but could not
Therapy doesnt really do to much for me. Although it is kinda nice having someone to talk to. Its like a paid friend
Therapy was a waste of time for me
They just got me dx’d with ASD, then cut me loose because their techniques wouldn’t work for someone like me, quote
No, it didn’t.

Therapy got me out once a week and someone to talk to
I’ve been able to use CBT techniques to realize when I’m heading towards a meltdown (stress/overstim) and shift gears, prevent it from happening.
The therapist the state provided had pretty much checked out on me as she was about to retire
She never told me any type of therapy she intended to do
Once I got the ASD Dx that’s what she told me
Recently they tried to get me more sessions, and no one locally has ASD training, so they said no
At least you got to talk to a therapist. I had to figure this out on my own using a very expensive book designed for professionals. @LevelJ1 did something similar.
I did, and realised that it was a waste of time… And that was after being on a waiting list for three years
Not going to continue this conversation, as last time I spoke about therapy past this point I got a weeks suspension from this site…
Same for me man, it seems that ppl here think therapy is magic and works for everyone.
Just a final comment… Don’t expect anything to produce magic results on the first try. Likely not on the tenth try. You might see improvement by the hundredth try. It took you years to get how you are and it is going to take any sort of therapy years to correct it. That’s just how it is. If you go for a few months and it didn’t work, well, maybe a bit - not that you could easily measure.
I am happy for those to who therapy works.
You can replace the word therapy with action, discipline and habit modification.
That ■■■■ helps lol
Did it help with delusions?
Yes and no. Yes I still have them, no they don’t bother me as much because I automatically shove them into the back corner of my mental workspace where they belong. CBT also got me out of the vicious cycle where positive symptoms ramped my stress up, the increased stress ramped my positive symptoms up, and then the positive symptoms ramp up the stress again… You get the idea.
I do. Was there anything else that had helped?
