I voted a couple of weeks ago by mail in ballot.

I voted. The main building in my complex is a polling place. My therapist reminded me to vote.

I had the chance to caucus in Iowa for the first time a few months ago, that was pretty cool to experience even though Trump won by a wide margin.

Voting by mail has been my preferred method since I started using it during Covid. I don’t feel rushed and can take all the time I need to read those long yes or no questions on the back which where I live usually involve allocating funds and should be read carefully.

Oh i just looked at my pile of mail.
My ballot was in there. Its too late.

i didnt vote either…didnt know it was a voting day but wouldnt have bothered if i did

In Belgium voting is mandatory. If you don’t vote you can get a fine.

I think we’re one of the few countries who have such a law.

That’s how it should be. @anon17326926

In the US - 40-60% vote depending on the elections. Doesn’t really represent everyone then.

that seems crazy to me. if someone doesnt wanna vote or care enough to vote then i dont think they have probably been paying attention and shouldnt vote if they dont care to.

They quote research that has been conducted that if voting is mandatory people are more engaged with politics. At least that’s what they claim and that it’s a civic duty.

In my opinion it shouldn’t be mandatory but no-one is listening to me

some people just dont care about politics. and if they dont care enough to vote without being fined then how seriously can they possibly take it

Oh Yes. I should say that you can vote ‘blank’. It’s just mandatory to show up!

oh well that makes it a bit better. the blank option. cause also some people dont like either option and want to protest vote and they should be allowed to

Also we don’t have a bipartisan system, so there are many parties. I think the current federal coalition is one of 7 parties.

Belgian politics is how crazy it can get.

Experts argue that in societies where there are significant economic disparities, individuals with more resources, such as wealth, education, and social connections, are more likely to participate in political processes, including voting. This leads to a situation where the preferences and interests of wealthy or powerful individuals have a disproportionate influence on political outcomes compared to those of less privileged individuals.

I find this true of the US. Most lower bracket people don’t vote cause they are so busy working and feel powerless and so many laws making it hard to vote before mail in ballots. Lots of people actually are mad that we have mail in ballots now making it easier to vote.

i kinda like that idea but the negative i see from it is that that means someone can win with only a tiny bit more than 1/7th of the populations support.

They have to come together and make a coalition. This can take more than a year sometimes. So there are years that we don’t have a Government with full powers.
