I’m trying to get through the night without a drink

I’ve been drinking alcohol everyday for the past 4 weeks. I just can’t seem to stop. Everyday I wake up with the intention to stop but then as soon as 5 or 6 hits, I’ve got a drink in my hand.

I need to quit once and for all.

There are back-to-back AA meetings online, especially on a Saturday night, I think I’m going to listen in.

I just want to make it 24 hours.

Best of luck. You can do it. After awhile of not drinking you don’t even think about it anymore

Here’s a list of real life AA groups in the US.

The website seems a bit tricky to navigate on my phone though.

It’s best if you completely abstain. I haven’t had any in almost ten years, and it’s because I wont let myself have any at all.

I can relate to the 24 hour thing.

Maybe that’s the way forward.

Just try to make it 24 hour goal.

And take it from there.

One day at a time.

So it’s less daunting.

Try and drink lots of water. Or have a sweet soda that has corn syrup in it when you get the urge to drink.

That’s what I do to help my cravings. I haven’t heavily drank in a very long time. Alcohol is really bad, especially for people with mi diagnoses.

I wish you luck @Gamera - i have the same kind of craving at exactly the same time. The french call it “The blue hour” (L’heure bleau)… I relapsed yesterday, modestly, but i’m back on the trail again

Late reply - but hope you managed it. If you fell off the wagon, dont beat yourself up about it. It can take several tries. If you must drink - go for a low 3% abv or something and lay off the premium stuff.

That nagging feeling your getting is your brain asking where its fix is. It does pass after a couple of days. Remember its all in your head.

Thanks. I did end up having a drink.

I’m going to try again tonight. If I can get past the first 24 hours, it’s usually enough momentum to keep it going.

It’s about 8 PM here. I just went to an AA meeting and now I’m headed out to Walmart in the snow to distract myself.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.
